You must read this.... [Ethanol content in fuel]
A few days ago I put a posting on here regarding what I believed to be the damage done by ethanol in fuel. There is an article on the TR Register that I believe everyone with an older vehicle should read. For example , did you know that ethanol is only added when the petrol is in the tanker, prior t...

Whats in todays petrol ?
Doing some work on a Moto Guzzi today, I have not ridden this bike for about a year. The inside of the carb body and the slide were covered in a sticky oil like substance. Worse the brass needle was coated with a green verdigree, thick enough I would think to effect the needles performance. Even whe...

What is this for.
Halfway down the gearstick, what looks like at metal drill bit adjustable stop. The previous owner had no idea why it was there, and I thought no more of it. However looking at a Minor for sale on ebay the other day, there was another one, it looked just the same. Just a coincidence or is there some...

Re: Help Needed so Emily can get to Goodwood
My Minor had bad overheating problems earlier this year, after a lot of messing around it was found to be a partially blocked radiator. Remove the bottom hose, pour water in the top at a steady rate, check how quickly it runs out at the bottom of the rad. Also look into the top of the rad, what stat...

Re: A bleeding nuisance.
Katy,
I thought my wording might cause confusion. The bleed nipples are of course attached to the rear cylinder, but they are on the master cylinder side of it, thus I wondered if a small pocket of air might be trapped in a new rear cylinder.

A bleeding nuisance.
Have just fitted two new rear brake cylinders to my 1964 Morris. All the usual problems, everything siezed etc. After bleeding there is still far too much travel on the brake pedal, the fluid is coming through clear, with no air bubbles. My question is, how is the air bled from the cylinders, when t...

Tappet chest gasket problem.
Having to fit a new rubber gasket on the front tappet chest, the one with the breather. Are these fitted dry, or with sealant on one or both sides.
Also I realise the bolt should not be done up too tight, but how tight.
Thanks.

Clutch pedal free play ?
I have three Minor handbooks, and all show differing amounts of free play at the clutch pedal. The Olyslager manual shows 5/32 inch free play at the clutch pedal. Pearsons states freeplay should be 3/4 inch. Haynes gives free play at the pedal as 1 3/8 min. To paraphase Goldilocks one seems too litt...

Re: Boiling like a kettle.
Problem seems to be solved. I noticed the radiator flow seemed to be slow, inspection through the filler cap showed many blocked core tubes. ( I believe this was the original radiator), Anyhow, a new radiator seems
to have solved the problem.
Thanks to all those who helped.

Re: Boiling like a kettle.
Latest update. Head off and stripped down, every thing looks perfect, see pictures. While I did not expect to see a crack, I thought I might see evidence of one, ie, some discolouration but nothing. All waterways and rad clear, however on testing the thermostat (Katy) it did seem a little tardy in o...

Re: has smoothrite changed?
Hammerite black gloss, is now very poor, I believe they claim it is for spray gun use, but who sprays Hammerite.. As someone mentioned earlier Aldi black paint for metal is excellent. I use it on my trailers which stand outside in all weathers. Plus you can clean the brushes in white spirit, and not...

Re: Boiling like a kettle.
Cylinder head is now off and stripped down. Unfortunately, strange thing to say, but everything looks perfect. Pistons all uniform, head gasket perfect, all the valves as one would expect, no obvious differences. Only the inlet valves looked a little oilier than I would have expected, but it has bee...

Re: Boiling like a kettle.
Thanks for prompt replies, but oh dear cracked head is a possibility. I bought the car at the end of October, just before it got very cold , I checked the coolant after the initial cold spell. It is kept in a unheated garage..
Of with his head tomorrow , will let you know what i find.

Boiling like a kettle.
In the last few days my Minor (un-modified 1964 model) has taken to blowing steam and water from the radiator cap after 2 or three miles. A change of cap makes no difference. The engine is a reconditioned one fitted around 5000 miles ago, a compression test shows three cylinders at 175 psi and one a...

Returning member with a question
Have just returned to the club after a gap of very many years. I purchased a two door. green saloon of 1964 vintage, last autumn it seems to be in very sound condition ; fingers crossed. My question is this, Back in the distant past I used to be a GPO telephone engineer and drive a Minor van all the...
