Re: Steering column rattle?

I will double check the pressures Chris, but they are checked every week, and wheels were balanced when new boots fitted 1500 miles back; the rattle predates the tyres :x I've just reached my tolerance threshold and need to sort it before insanity sets in haha

Thanks

Steering column rattle?

Just wondering what could be causing it..... most noticeable over choppy surfaces-I've tightened up every screw nut and bracket in sight (and a lot out of sight too!) but still have the noise. Gripping the steering wheel tightly doesn't make a difference, but it definitely seems to be from the colum...

Re: Urgent! Suggestions for garage security please....

Thanks for all the ideas :D :D all food for thought, and MarkyB special thanks to you; I found something called Pacri Bolts that seem to be almost Mortice Locks for garage doors, again with just a single hole visible on the outside once fitted. I'll also add some re-inforceing angle-iron to the lowe...

Urgent! Suggestions for garage security please....

Hi all, I went round to the lock-up where I keep my Minor, and when I arrived I got that awful sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.... Both padlock hasps had been cut through and no sign of my Abus disc padlocks! My first thought was that when I opened the door that Morris would be gone, or van...

Re: Renting a garage

I rent mine from Hillingdon council, quiet safe location & waterproof, 12quid a week which includes VAT, close to my flat-bargain! I was paying 60 pounds a month for a damp hovel with resident rodents where i used to live-rotten wood doors that I had to repair to make secure, the owner promised ...

Re: Green Goddess Fire Engine

The top two have a very purposeful look to them, they are IFA G 5 SK 2 WaWe; WaWe is Wasserwerfer- water cannon, The third pic is a Star. These were made in Poland and used with great effect by the Milicja Obywatelska, or Peoples Mititia. They lost much credibilty by augmenting their fleet with thes...

Re: Wiper spindle bushes-available?

I'm assuming it was a spindle bush; part of a dark grey or black nylon ring about 10mm diameter and a bit more top to bottom..... Found it on the scuttle next to the wiper arm - a sort of barrel shape, thicker in the middle than at the ends - if not the bush, does this description sound familiar? If...

Wiper spindle bushes-available?

Hello,

Does anyone know if the wiper wheelbox spindle bushes are available separately?

As new wheelboxes for my 1960 clap-hands model are about 30 quid each I would rather refurbish than replace!

Re: French article on Morris Minor

Good magazine is Gazoline! I always get the current mag. when doing the 'Supermarket Sweep' through Auchan at Calais or Grande-Synthe prior to boarding the ferry; we travel over to and through France quite often.... So far have not taken the Morris as the Civic has infinitely more wine-carrying capa...

Re: jelous vandalizers

There's a lot to be said in favour of summary justice; catch someone in the act - take appropriate steps to ensure that the perpetrator never touches anyone's car again. Unfortunately in this country you would be dragged through the 'legal' system whilst the original offender would get compensation,...

Re: gearbox anti-rattle

Think that you should remove the plunger before the gearstick to prevent the plunger and spring from ending up in the bowels of the remote mechanism and causing tears and wailing. You may need to lift the tail of the remote mechanism to clear the plunger bolt-head from the transmission tunnel, I lev...

Re: What did you drive in 1985

Such a long time ago! I had a beautiful two-year old MkII Granada 2.8i Ghia X, ex civil service car in black; it was a SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) car, as attested by a mysterious plate under the bonnet; I think it was that black was generally not offered to Joe Public then, it also had useable...

Re: Steering Wheels

I wonder if there is an age criterion for spoke up/spoke down; my 1960 saloon is spoke up, howeve in a copy of the handbook printed in 1963 with the later mini type heater the drawing shows the wheel spoke down..... perhaps that was when things changed for some reason known only to the factory-possi...

Thanks Mike, I'm in West Drayton so not far at all; I will pull the wheel off and take a look to see if there is anything obvious missing broken or merely out of place, I cannot see it being too different from the 1098 type but you never know..... Will take you up on your offer of pearls at some poi...

A million thanks for that priceless pearl Mike, how fortunate you are only about 30 minutes drive from me; I'll not use too much fuel when I come and let your tyres down!  :) Regards Dave On a more serious note, there is no diagram of what SHOULD be within the steering column in the off...
