Re: Can anyone recommend a gasket sealant?

When I took my thermostat off the nuts were seized and the studs came out. When I replaced the studs the water leaked up around the threads. I think I used Hylomar Blue on the threads and it sealed well.

Re: Self-Centering Steering

To check if your steering is free without jacking it up, drive the front wheels onto a couple of glossy magazines and the steering should be really easy to turn.

If you add fuel to the carb and it starts then maybe you should check the choke operation.

There should be no yellow wires. Perhaps the white wires have just "yellowed" with age.

Re: Holes in my floor above exhaust heat shield

I renewed mine with a sheet of aluminium but fitted it using spacers so there is an air gap between the shield and the floor. seems to work well as the floor never gets hot.

These diagrams are very good, you should be able to identify it from the wiring colours going to your relay.
Mines a 72 so probably won't be the same.

Re: Brake adjustment

Did the shoes touch the drums before everything was changed? If so you can put the old shoes back on and if they touch then you have the wrong size shoes, if they still don't touch, then you have the wrong size cylinders. Or worst case scenario, they are both the wrong size!

Re: LED bulbs anyone?

Interior light is a must, doesn't get hot and melt the plastic lens when you leave the door open. Front sidelights are also a good move but beware the ones with a blueish tint, MOT testers don't like them. I haven't had much luck with stop/tail, the tail is brighter but the stop is not so bright so ...

Re: Running issues. Advice appreciated

Carb wear is not sudden or intermittent. Go back to basics and check plugs and points. For the misfire check under the bonnet when it is dark to see if there are any stray sparks. A compression test will show if you have a blown head gasket , worn rings or burnt valves.

Re: No spark

Forgetting about the electronic ignition for a moment and concentrating on the coil..... With the ignition on you should have 12v on one of the wires to the coil. Leave this one connected, disconnect the other, then use a temporary earthed lead and put it on the other terminal. When you REMOVE this ...

Yes it comes out of the ignition switch on the white wire. Do you have voltage on the brown/blue on the ignition switch? If not do you have voltage on A1 on the control box?
