Re: Fuel pipe pump to carb ID?
Thanks for the replies everyone. I’ll start at the local motor factors for some 1/4 internal diameter hose that’s rated for E10. Definitely not going for braided again. No way of telling what’s going on with the rubber.

Re: Fuel pipe pump to carb ID?
Noticed that “braided “ and “un braided” were both auto - corrected in I’m post!

Fuel pipe pump to carb ID?
I found, underneath the breading my fuel pipe from the pump to the carb was full of little cracks. That’s where the smell of petrol was coming from. Seems better to just get an unbranded section from the local car accessory shop. Anyone know the internal diameter for the pipe on an early 1000? Barry

Indicator / horn push
My indicator switch has worn out on my 1957 saloon.
Could I use the earlier unit with the built in warning light and simply remove the light? Are the two indicator / horn push switches exactly the same otherwise?

Speedo Cable fit
Is there a difference in the depth of the speedo cable mounting on the gearbox of the 948 minor to others? Ive just fitted a new cable from ESM to my 1957 saloon and although the screw ring is fully done up at the gearbox, the cable is clearly loose. Driving a couple of miles to a rally tomorrow. Wi...

Re: Exhaust clamp leak causing starting problems?
Problem persisted with some spluttering and English ne not pulling cleanly when hot for a couple of days and then it cut out and wouldn't re start. I cleaned the carb bowl out of some gunge at the bottom and checked the jet was clear. Still nothing even when spraying Easy Start down the air intake. ...

Re: Exhaust clamp leak causing starting problems?
I've been checkingg what I can. Battery is giving 12.48v at rest and 10.98 when the starter is engaged. The + terminal of the coil is also getting 10.98v when cranking the enbgine. I noticed a few minutes after I'd tried all this that the coil was very hot. Just tried holding the distributer end of ...

Re: Starting problem
Thanks for all the replies. At the time of this post it n April, I followedd the advice and charged the battery and didn't have any problem until last week. Now the same things happenng with a fully chag d battery. Ive started a new post on this too b cause I also realised I had a manifold leak and ...

Re: Exhaust clamp leak causing starting problems?
Thanks for the comments, everyone. I've sorted the manifold leak but the starting problem persists. Using an Acuspark cap I can see a big beefy flash when the engine is running but a very little one when starting. The battery is fully charged and connections are good. It's easier to start when the e...

Exhaust clamp leak causing starting problems?
I've got a gas leak from my manifold to exhaust pipe clamp which I expect is causing the spluttering acceleration but Ive also suddenly got an intermittant starting problem where twice in the the last couple of days I couldn't get the engine to start. I left it for ten minutes and it started instant...

Starting problem
I've had a starting problem this week, but once started it runs fine. I can hear the petrol pump ticking over, it's had a new coil, leads, points and condenser in the last few months. Just tried one of those flashing spark plug testers and found a very weak spark which suddenly gets much stronger wh...

Re: Engine won't idle
Well, that was satisfying. Cleaned off some black marks inside the piston chamber and some brown glazing. Carefully polished off some chalky residue at the base of the needle and now it seems to be running fine. Also, I don't need to pull the choke cable out as far as it will go to start it in the m...

Ah, thanks, good suggestion. I wouldnt have thought of that. In fact, I can't remember the last time I checked the dash pot for oil.

Re: Engine won't idle
Thanks for that. Could a partially blocked main jet or some other carb problem be causing this?
Forgot to mention I've checked tightness of manifold bolts in case it was sucking in air.

Engine won't idle
I've had an intermittant problem with my 1957 saloon not idling unless the choke is out or I keep the foot on the accelerator. By the colour of the plugs, the mixture is fine. It runs fine at any speed. New coil, Distributer Doctor points and condenser, new plug leads recently. Is it possible there'...

Re: sudden ignition failure
Th dizzy clamp seems tight and I don't think it's moved. The new points were the same make as the ones I took out and I'm pretty sure I've set the gap right. Where would the petrol into the carb test go if the float chamber's already full ?- the plug tips are getting wet with fuel. The slight beginn...

Re: sudden ignition failure
Thanks for the advice, everyone. There's fuel in the float chamber, the plugs get wet with fuel when I try to start it ( although the plug in cylinder no 1 seems not to be). There's plenty of compression judging by turning the starting handle. The plug leads are all in the correct place having check...

Re: sudden ignition failure
checking resistance of the first HT lead with a multimeter set to 20,000 ohms there's no reading. Signifficant? Solved the mystery of the horn / radio / interior light. Although the fuse looked sound there was no current passing through and when I took it out again one of the ends fell off. Horn etc...

Re: sudden ignition failure
There's a spark at each plug but the engine won't start. The battery's fully charged. Still no life in the horn, radio and interior light although I've cleaned the contacts round both fuses. I never drive without the radio on which is what makes me think this must have something to do with the non s...

Re: sudden ignition failure
I'll check the sparking situation at all four spark plugs again tomorrow. I wonder if the sudden radio interference that started a few weeks ago might indicate a duff ht cable or two.
