Shopping List for Wing Restoration

Our 1969 2-Door Minor is going in for some bodywork in a few weeks time. Two front wings and one rear will be coming off for repair/replacement. I'd like to give the bodyshop a box of sundries for when it goes back together. I'm thinking of things like the coloured sealing strips and headlamp gasket...

Twin Washer Jets

My daughter's 1969 Minor 1000 has single washer jets with a manual pump. It works well, if a little stiff for her sometimes. I managed to snap one of the jet connectors whilst refitting the wiper drive cable :( I'm about to treat her to a pair of chrome washer jets and see they're available in singl...

Re: Stolen - Blue Morris Oxford (H Reg) Sydenham, London

Hi, I sincerely hope that your friend gets this back in one piece. However, if you or anyone you know has any contacts in the world of banger racing, I would certainly put the word out. And keep an eye on eBay for any recognisable parts. I know this is a gloomy message and I'm sorry for that but th...

Re: Parking at Shows

 they would pinch the dash cam first That was my first thoughts! My question isn't really about physical security - as that's more than well catered for elsewhere, it's just to ascertain if this is a big problem. For all I know it may be rife and no sane person leaves his car unattended on the...

Should give any intruders a surprise they weren't expecting.
Good idea, but it's the stuff on the outside I worry about - hub caps, rear lights, over-riders!!

Parking at Shows

It may just be me being paranoid, but if I'm going to a classic car show as a spectator I take my daily driver. My theory is that if you leave a nice classic on a public car-park (field) full of classic "enthusiasts" then you're likely to come back and find anything that can be removed has...

Re: Security devices

Yes - having the phone wired in would be a benefit, but difficult to hide from someone who knows their way around Minors. If someone nicks your car it's either joyriders (rare) or someone who wants it for what it is - either whole or as parts. My theory is you've got 36 hours max before someone with...

The best coverage is on Vodafone, as they have more cell towers.

Re: Security devices

Just to be clear, it's an annual payment but equivalent to £3.33 per month ( 1/2 gallon of petrol :( ) The Cambridge-Oxford club had a couple of members with cars stolen in the last few months. One was recovered after we blitzed the membership with email alerts (http://tinyurl.com/suntor) but the ot...

Re: Security devices

I use a tracking system based on the mobile phone network. You basically hide a phone in the car and monitor its location on a website. I've been perfecting it over the years, from using scabby old mobiles with poor battery life, to the current system based on a Nokia 100 handset which lasts 35 days...

Re: Rear foot wells keep flooding

The hole is open - I can get my finger in, but as I mentioned, appears very solid around it.
That's why I wondered if it was a drain hole that had started to fray at the edges.
It's flat underneath, directly in line with where the side window meets the door pillar.

Re: Rear foot wells keep flooding

I've had exactly the same problem on a 2 door Minor 1000 and found it was the side window near the door pillar. I can fix the leak but worried about what damage it's done? The floor appears solid and rot free but when I look from underneath there is a hole in the sill. It's not scabby and crumbling ...

Re: Removing passenger door lock

I too struggled to remove the locking lever and found this post which gave me a clue.
Mine didn't have a split pin or P Clip holding it in.
There is a spring loaded pin on the underside which you need to press in with a flat blade screwdriver before pulling the locking lever out.

Re: car insurance

This year's Renewal has just come in from Footman James for my 18 year old daughter. Her premium has risen from £630 to £725 - TPF&T with £100 excess. (No claims made in last 12 months) I checked with Lancaster and Adrian Flux - they can't better it. That's a straight 15% increase on last year -...

Anyone had figures for Renewals yet this year on the young drivers scheme?
I paid £630 last year for Third Party for my 17 year old daughter.
I'm holding my breath for renewal next month :-?

Brake Fluid Level

I've been fretting over a drop in brake fluid level but now wonder if I'm over concerned? We replaced a wheel cylinder on my daughter's 1969 Minor 1000 a few months back and I topped up the brake fluid to the point where the filler neck meets the main chamber. Every few weeks it drops by a thimble f...

Re: car insurance

I've just spoken to Footman James and asked them to clarify the situation.
Basically, it's only under club schemes, like our MMOC, where they will quote new policies or renew existing ones for under 25 year olds.
They assured me that my 18 year old daughter would be offered a renewal in March!

Re: car insurance

To be honest the discounted insurance for young drivers is the main reason we joined the club. If we lost that benefit then I'm afraid it's bye-bye Moggie and membership, because I can't justify thousands of pounds premium  My daughter's renewal is due in March - I hope the Club can issue a sta...

How to Get a Double Bass into a Morris Minor

My daughter studies music at college and had the task of recording her friend's double bass. Trouble was, her friend had no transport on the day and college's own instrument is decidedly ropey. Rachael drives a 2 door Minor 1000 - not an obvious choice for moving a double bass. But, with a bit of la...
