Re: A strange one.

How old and what material is the pump to carb hose? Old rubber hoses can break down internally creating a sort of flap (like the valves in your veins) that effectively shuts or severely restricts flow when fuel is pumping quickly. Ethanol in the modern fuels can exacerbate it.

Citric acid works very well indeed and is very easy and straightforward.

Re: Just out of interest!

Were you a bit over zealous in tightening the retaining nut so that the moving parts were not quite free to move? Just clutching at straws... :-?

Re: Cleaning agent

Milton is a chlorine type agent. We use soda crystals (Wilko, Tesco etc) to clean out tea pots etc and it works extremely well - soak overnight. I remember someone saying that Steradent (is that still made??) tablets work very well too.

Re: Water in passenger footwell

I had water ingress in the bottom outer corners of the seal where it meets the glass. Looked absolutely fine but that's where it leaked. Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure (yes it is a real thing!) will sort it easily.

I seem to remember getting mine from ESM and they were good - might even have been stainless? Don't forget to drill the drainage holes! My channels didn't have any in them...

Cars For Sale bit

I've looked a few times over the last couple of weeks and either a) there are no cars currently for sale or b) something isn't working properly for me. There's a message at the bottom that says I can't reply to topics on there as well? Can anyone shed some light please?

Re: Braided brake hoses?

Most braided hoses are not rubber inside - they are a polymer (often things like PTFE for example) so there's no degradation as there is with rubber

Re: Braided brake hoses?

A lot of people do report a firmer feel after switching to braided hoses because there is nothing like the expansion that rubber hoses allow. More noticeable on motorcycle brakes etc I think.

eBay scam

I've just reported this on eBay: eBay item number:154398609155
It's the same idiot who keeps posting a Douglas Dragonfly motorcycle and has been reported many times from members of that group. He keeps changing his name but it's always 'selling for a friend' and dodgy contact details.

Re: Installing discreet audio system

I would go for a car USB adaptor but make sure it can provide a decent current - the audio system is likely to be on for quite a time rather than just intermittent use so better to have some overkill - otherwise the transformer unit will probably overheat.

Re: Top Hose Marina engine to Minor radiator

I think the thermostat housing from an MGB makes it dead easy to fit the top hose - the hose stub comes off at a different angle and then the 1275 engine connects nicely to the minor radiator.

Re: Citric acid in block

Well I thought there must be some sort of reaction going on, but I think he flushed it all out first before putting the citric acid in? Concentration of that isn't critical at all - even quite concentrated won't hurt the iron - just dissolve the iron oxide. It doesn't make sense that the crystals he...

Re: Citric acid in block

Hmmm - that's interesting that plain water hasn't dissolved it? Citric acid dissolves pretty well in water usually - have you tried pouring boiling water on the bits you can see?
