It may be inside of the gasket seating area. Have you got one to place on the block to see?

Re: Brake fluid
I too changed to Automec silicone fluid when I fitted all new brake system, front discs new copper/nickel pipes. new flex pipes and master cylinder and reaf cylinders. Never had a days problem since. If any standard fluid remains in your system it won't matter. It will still work but you will not ac...

Re: Half shaft refit - handedness?
I fitted a pair of reconditioned/hardened half shafts a while ago. I had no way of telling which side they came from so I just fitted them blind. Either I got it right or it did not make any difference, but that was nearly twenty years ago and they are still fine. I know that wont help you in determ...

I love the colour. You have a very interesting project that will keep you busy for some time but you will have a wonderful car when you are finished. I am slightly jealous.

Re: Diff Plug Tool
Always undo the filler cap first. If it proves difficult, at least the diff will have oil in it so you can move the car if needed. only whe the filler is loose should you undo the drain. This way you know you can fill it up again.

Re: Gearbox repair /replacement
Hi Lizzy. I had a gearbox that needed replacing about 20 years ago. I had a renewed exchange box from a company near Heathrow. It locked solid after a few weeks and I had to send it back for a replacement. The second box has been trouble free ever since. I think a box that despite this a replacement...

Brilliant. Thanks for that. We came back to the UK from France last year. In France the MOT for classic cars was every five years.

No MOT
I was out of the country when the change in MOT rules came into effect. I have a current MOT, in order to re-register my 1969 Traveller in the UK. I understand that it is no longer a legal requirement on vehicles of a certain age, but do I need to fill in a form or anything else when it comes up for...

Re: Rear axle repair
I took a rear axle off of my convertible and found that it had rusted through at that point too. I welded it up and ground it to shape. It was not difficult and I had a successful repair.

Re: How many of you can weld, and how did you learn?
I worked at an engineering factory and became a welder there. We made valves for the Nuclear and petro - chenical industry so our welds were tested to LLoyds standard. We used argon arc TIG, MIG and S.M.A.W. (stick) welding with just a little gas welding and brazing. When I converted a two door salo...

Re: Remote battery isolator
That is food for thought as I have an anti theft battery switch fitted to the battery, but I have to open the bonnet to use it. I was looking for a short term switch that did not require lifting the bonnet for when I am making frequent stops. It will only be required for the fused side of the electr...

Re: Remote battery isolator
Thank you all for your comments, They mirror my thoughts, The reason for the drain is that ten years ago I fitted a CD player that I bought at a car boot sale foe £1.00. It worked fine when the car was parked but the CDs jumped when the car went over a bump. I was going to take it out and throw it a...

Remote battery isolator
I'm having problems with battery drainage and have fitted a screw down battery isolator. But this means I have to open the bonnet every time I want to use it. I have seen these remote isolators and wondered if any one has experience of using one.

Re: Conversion from discs back to drum brakes
I can only agree with the previous comments. I fitted a Ford disc kit from Mr Burton in the eighties. I also changed to silicone fluid at the same time and I have eliminated the annual rear brake cylinder overhaul. My wheels do not stick out either. As far as maintenance is concerned, I am still run...
