Re: Oil Separator flame trap "Chimney"

I did the same as you in the 90s when I worked in an engineering factory. I remember using stainless steel wire wool. It is still working as it should.

I have just replaced mine with a new set fro ESM. Excellent set. It was a bit fiddly under the dash but I did it OK. Use good quality Jubilee clips.

Re: Knocking from engine on medium revs.

Is the air filter lid loose? My dad told me he needed a new gearbox on his Robin Reliant many years ago. It would cost him £400n for a new one. I took if for a drive and realised that his filter lid was loose. I said I would fix if for less than £400.

Improved rear lights

It has been recommended before so I got myself a set of LED side lights, rear/brake lights, number plate lights and indicators from Classic Car LEDs,. It has concerned me for a while that the Traveller's brake lights are quite dim and low down as compared to modern cars. The LEDs are magnificent and...

Re: Opening up a 202 head

I did the same many years ago when I overhaled the engine. I followed the book but did not go the full hog. One thing I did do was open up the carburetted in the way he suggests, from round to square bore and feather the throttle disk etc. Every thing went smoothly and the car runs OK. I can't say t...

Re: Detecting Coolant Leak (UV dye)

Well done. It looks a nice clean engine. We used that stuff in the factory I worked in to crack detect components. Try just repositioning the jubilee clip if the hose is OK.

Re: Door locating peg and socket misalignment

From memory, I have taken mine off and refitted them and the threaded plate behind has not fallen. It may be they one needs to go up and the other needs to go down. They are fiddly to align.

Re: Half shaft refit - handedness?

I fitted a pair of reconditioned/hardened half shafts a while ago. I had no way of telling which side they came from so I just fitted them blind. Either I got it right or it did not make any difference, but that was nearly twenty years ago and they are still fine. I know that wont help you in determ...

I love the colour. You have a very interesting project that will keep you busy for some time but you will have a wonderful car when you are finished. I am slightly jealous.

Re: Diff Plug Tool

Always undo the filler cap first. If it proves difficult, at least the diff will have oil in it so you can move the car if needed. only whe the filler is loose should you undo the drain. This way you know you can fill it up again.

Re: Gearbox repair /replacement

Hi Lizzy. I had a gearbox that needed replacing about 20 years ago. I had a renewed exchange box from a company near Heathrow. It locked solid after a few weeks and I had to send it back for a replacement. The second box has been trouble free ever since. I think a box that despite this a replacement...
