Server Maintenancecv
At some point in 2024 between 20th April and 31st May, our service provider will be migrating the server hosting this Messageboard to a new platform. This will mean that the Board will be down for up to one hour. If we get sufficient notice of when the migration will start, then I will post an updat...
Re: Wipers
The two speed motor has a normal speed that is slightly slower than the standard motor and a high speed that is considerably faster. It's basically a motor from the later classic mini. I used it for many years as I commuted on dual carriageways. It is worthwhile if you use the car for daily transpor...
Re: Hoses
Unless you have got an upgraded heater, in which case they may be 5/8. Easy to recognise as typically have reducers to take them back to half inch to connect to the tap and metal return pipe.

Re: Diff Oil Amount.
I've never seen a book in litres According to the manuals I have, you need 1.5 pints which converts to 0.852 litres. However, filling until it reaches the bottom of the filler hole is what I've always done, and it's worked OK for 46 years with no ill effects

Have a look at the old ones. You will probably see a similar length of exposed thread which should give you confidence.

Re: Morris Minor Pickup 1965 not starting
I'm curious as to why the starter solenoid is all the way down there, is that a pickup thing? That's the normal position for the solenoid as opposed to the pull switch on the earlier cars. I've never found it prone to water etc when driving. svenedin wrote: ↑ I have always wondered why there was a ...

Re: Morris Minor Pickup 1965 not starting
To test the solenoid, connect a wire to the terminal on the side where the white/red wire goes. With handbrake on. gear in neutral, and everything clear of potentially moving parts, touch the other end of the wire to the non-earthed battery terminal. If the solenoid clicks and the engine turns over,...

Re: Radio for a Minor
With a negative earth, you can fit any modern car radio / sound system. Usual places for mounting the unit are under the dashboard or in a glovebox. Speakers can go on the rear parcel shelf, in the doors or in the scuttle panels. The aerial is often fitted in a wing, but I have found that a roof mou...

Re: Crank rear oil seal
I can only echo the above. The kit is not worth it. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but it does not solve the problem. The instructions (at least with one I fitted many years ago) gave very tight tolerances for the flange, and most crankshafts that I have measured do not meet those requirement...

A drift away from the original question  All very interesting, really the colour is a topic in its own right under Bodywork; but I'm not going to split it out :-? Rach, if you still want to know about the oil filter as originally asked, can you post a photo of what you have currently so that we...

Save the photo to where you can access it. A small file size is good - if using Windows, then the snip tool will allow you to select and copy part of a photo and save to a small size. Prepare post as usual. Scroll down and click on Attachments tab. Click button <Add files>. Browse to the file and se...

You need a Heritage Certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust at Gaydon. It will list the original colour, date built, date shipped, to which dealer, and a host of other details. You can also look behind the glove box liners and other trim as those areas may reveal the original body...

If the car is standard, then rear axle use SAE90 Hypoid / EP90 oil. Approx 1.5 pints; but fill until it comes out of the filler hole. Engine oil filter - is it the original unit with a metal bowl and separate element, or has it been converted to a spin on one? If not sure, then post a photo of right...

Contact the Club's office in Derby. If the current owner is a member of the club then the office will be able to pass your details to the owner. If you do meet up, then it would make a good article for the Club's magazine "Minor Matters".

Have you had this problem? If yes, but currently OK, then can you please send me a PM to confirm which ISP or network you were using plus the IP address reported when blocked. If currently having the problem, then try sending me a PM as above and see if that works. If that still does not work, then ...

Re: Lockheed Brake M/C
socket should be OK as the cap is not tightened excessively. The only thing to watch is that the alloy is quite soft and a socket grips on the corners or points, whereas a box spanner grips the flats. However, seated plus a bit should be fine and much better than a bodge with an open ended spanner o...
