Re: Trunnion replacement first timer

What a nasty job. Not helped by some previous halfwits. The split pin on the ball joint had been broken off at both ends. I got the castle nut off. Not sure what I am going to do the with the plugged up hole. Also had to saw off the copper brake pipe  as someone had rounded off the union, which...

Re: Trunnion replacement first timer

Just had the front offside trunnion come off whilst I was driving (an interesting experience). The thread on the trunnion was bare. However, the one on the kingpin looks fine. I have ordered new trunnions and a kingpin just in case. However, just curious about whether you can install a new lower tru...

Windscreen fillet strip size change?

I have just replaced the rubber windscreen surround, due to water leaks. I purchased a new rubber surround and fillet strip (later plastic type). Having got the windscreen and rubber back into the car. I tried fitting the strip (something I have done several times before). The strip (supplied with t...

Just removed and replaced these windows during my rebuild. There was one clip on the passenger side and none
on the drivers side, they don't seem to make much difference......just waiting for the windows to fall out now :o

Re: Arrggg.. removing flller plug on back axle

Just getting ready to do a full service on the car for the first time, since purchase and rebuild. Just wondered how the filler plug is removed. Is it a 1/2 inch square drive? so the end of a socket bar will fit? or does it need a special tool? Thought I should ask before I make a mess of it. It doe...

Heater valve type?

At some stage, one of the previous owners has removed the heater valve from the top of the cylinder head and replaced it with a plain pipe. I presume, judging by the cable and button under the dashboard that it should have a cable operated valve. Can anyone tell me if this should be the straight or ...

Re: What colour is this?

Agree, smoke grey. It has a weird tendency to look different colours in different lights. In my signature the car looks pale blue (bright and sunny). In dull light it is light grey. When I was painting it (in the garage) it had a greeny tinge to it.

I agree. I've never found the need to lacquer cellulose. Using 1200 grit wet and dry and G3 rubbing paste has always given me a good finish. Don't forget, our cars were never given a mega shiny finish in the factory.

Re: Where do you tie a tow rope.

Just picked up the car from it's MOT. A pass, so now drivable after the rebuild, just need some nice weather. According to the mechanic, it would not be too difficult to weld something onto the front chassis arms, either a thick plate with an eye attached or some bar bent into an eye shape and welde...

Re: Where do you tie a tow rope.

I have had a look through the Road Traffic act, not an easy read and not that clear. I have just submitted the following question to the "ask the police" website. What are the rules and regulations regarding towing a broken down car, if both cars are taxed, insured and MOT'd? Interesting t...
