Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!

It has again been a while since my last post and the good news is that my engine is ready to be re-fitted. As previously stated, I was advised only one valve needed replacing but after further examination it was decided to replace them all. A good opportunity now to give the engine a good degrease r...

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!

Engine has been delivered today and a great job done getting those studs out without any damage to head or block. At least one valve will need replacing. Please could I have recommendations as to where to obtain these from. Thanks. It also seems that the cover for the tappet chamber has gone missing...

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!

It has been a while since my last post. The head is finally off! Seven of the studs required drilling out and the head was removed without any damage. This has revealed the gasket blown around three cylinders and one valve requiring work. The rest seem ok so I have been told. Yet to see the engine m...

Re: Fuel cap hinge

Hi Rob
Yes I believe it is the same as the other link.
I don’t have the piece welded to the pipe but looking to attach a link to it to replicate the original type of fuel cap fitting as on the early cars.

Re: Fuel cap hinge

Hi Rob
Sorry, perhaps I wasn’t very clear.
I have an original cap with one link attached to it. The piece I need is the second link that fixes to the inside of the filler pipe.
Thanks for your reply.

Fuel cap hinge

Hi
I wonder if anyone might have a spare hinge that attaches to the fuel pipe opening. The image below shows what I would like to obtain.
Many thanks

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!

Hi David Thanks for enquiring. The hanging method has not worked so I am still no further forward. It is very frustrating! I am still nervous at being too aggressive as I really do not want to damage the head. I will have a chat with the engineer who kindly offered to help to see what we could do ne...

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!

Rob Thank you for your suggestion and photo. We have considered this but my engineer pal was a little concerned that there might be a collar attached around the spark plug holes and the force of this procedure might damage it. I have indicated on the image below. Do you think it would be ok to try? ...

Re: Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!

Thank you all for your suggestions. The engine has only been hanging for a week and so far there does not seem to be any movement so as to get wedges in. Based on Richards experience, it may be a good while longer to wait! Over the months, plenty of penetrating liquid had been applied together heat ...

Sidevalve head removal issues. Help!

Hi again I am having problems trying to remove the cylinder head following a blown gasket. For something that should be relatively straight forward is proving to be difficult. As you can see from the photo below, the engine is presently suspended with the hope that the weight of the block will help ...

Can I get more power from Sidevalve?

I am currently having problems removing the head so as to change a blown gasket. When I can eventually get it off and check everything else is ok, is there a way or modification I can do to get more power out of the engine whilst still retaining the original ancillaries and keep the engine bay looki...

Replacement engine plate

With reference to my other post dated 13 December, I attach a photo of the plate attached to my sidevalve engine.
Would it be possible to find out from the number stamped on it when and where it was built within the Morris Motors organisation.
Thank you

Re: Gear lever removal

Thank you Les for your reply. I’m sorry my post was perhaps a little too general as I think your suggestion may be for a later gear box. I have provided images below to try to clarify my problem. The drawing breaks down the components that apply. Parts numbered 17, 18 and 19 have been removed leavin...

Sidevalve Replacement Engine Colour

Hi. I have removed my engine for work and have noticed there are two stamped copper plates attached. One is circular and attached to the side and the other is rectangular placed at the gear box end. Wanted- Lowlight side light bulb holder

Hi I am looking for the small plate that holds the side light bulb which is attached to the rear of the headlight bowl. Re: Sidevalve cylinder head studs required

Hi Rob Thank you for your reply. I don't have a stud to measure for you as yesterday snapped one off! Aborted attempting the rest just in case. Will now seek help on way forward now. The Morris Register studs look much more attractive so I will make some enquiries. If you do have some spare at the l...

Sidevalve cylinder head studs required

Hi. I need to replace all 13 head studs and after some research, I believe I need 4 x long 80mm-Morris part no. X17207, 5 x medium 73mm - part no. X15020 and 4 x short 64mm - part no. X15568. Firstly, please could I have confirmation that these are correct. Thanks. Secondly, a well known supplier ha...
