Re: Thank you

And thank you for the kind acknowledgements We know we weren't major club members but we also know that you'd appreciate what a wrench this is. I've repaired my own vehicles all my life (partly due to interminable brokeness) and I still know my way round. That said the Morris has lead me a few dance...

Thank you

As the sad moment has arrived when we must part with our favourite car, we would just like to thank the club and members for their help during our brief but wonderful Morris ownership. This was my fourth and I thought we'd be together for good, but circumstances beyond our control have pushed Moriar...

New battery, alternator, dashlight bulb - poor charge

My 71 Travller had an alternator when I bought it. It worked fine through two winters, but starting first thing began to get a touch lazy last autumn. I tightened the fan belt and it picked up but soon worsened again. I tested the battery before any use first thing, then the voltage drop as the star...

Handbrake failure - possible causes

Firstly apologies as no trawling through topics has found any answer or correct place to post. If I had the ability I'd go through this entire site and get everything in order - there;s some great advice but finding it is a nightmare - which you don't need when you're already living a bad dream tryi...

Re: Lucas ACR Alternator not charging - warning light

I've spent the last 3 weeks charging a battery I believed was faulty; the supplier tested it and blamed the alternator. I replaced it with a used one to no avail. I replaced that with a new one - same result, or lack thereof. I just replaced the bulb in the speedo (ignition warning light) (long stor...

SU HS2 using too much oil

Posted: Mon Nov 18, 2013 3:59 pm Post subject: Su Carb using oil - where is the seal? Before I dismantle the carb - or even order any parts, despite looking at several diagrams I cannot locate the O ring/seal whatever that is apparently (allegedly) allowing my Morris to burn silly amounts of oil. Pl...

Service/remove heater unit

Below is a link to a useful vid. Mine also had right angle brakets bolted to the bulkhead. I relined with imitation chamois instead of foam gentle tap pressure (hose pipe) cleared the matrix - the box is held with self tapping screws. Wiring can be nightmarish as can be plumbing - what goes whre is ...

Local V National

We have let our National membership lapse, as I never seemed to be able to get the spares I needed when I need them - our car is our car, not a hobby. Neither were many of the events within reasonable striking distance and we didn't join out of social need. If we go a long way it's either a jet or o...

Re: Transmission rumble

With a spanner (not a local, a tool; no not a scroat either) in hand I began dismantling the axle for examination. As I slackened the last few nuts off on the 'u' bolt it just schlocked into place. That is to say, I'd noticed it was not perpendicular to the floor and was suspicious. What had happene...

Wow
interesting and funny responses:)

I just hope that my ignorant jibe will at least inform newbies of a pitfall.

Newbies? Hell, I can't even find what's trying to shake my traveller to pieces!

Re: Classic Tours - easy or hard to do?

Very encouraging and exactly the questions buzzing around in our heads. Apparently Sheffield regard this as taxi-like and treat/regulate it accordingly. I have to say I didn't know about the end of term rental/hire but I was aware of differences in hire of vehicle/vehicle and driver. I have spoken t...

Re: Band with No Name

Flippin eck, Samanthas!! No, a lot of the old clubs and discos have gone and as I seldom bother with town couldn't comment on the new ones. To be honest I only had a brief fling with these places at a time when I pretended I was growing up. It was fun to revisit the world of pop, as when I grew up I...

Re: Classic Tours - easy or hard to do?

Thanks for the encouragement. We have all but given up, as it is Sheffield Council regs that deny us this opportunity (possibly elsewhere too) for example by stating that no vehicle over 5 years old can apply for hire licensing. That must have been invented by BMW sorry I meant European Council... S...

Re: Transmission rumble

Hee Hee - I have a knack for doing things while people advise me not too:) But we're all wrong re prop shaft The UJs felt fairly tight to me (given the tolerances the likes of Morris and Triumph (mcycles) will run OK in). But I changed them anyway. Given the state of things mechanical on this car, I...

Re: Transmission rumble

Hi Thank you all. I think I've got it - rechecked prop shaft with a soft mallet and found movement at both ends (urgh) so have ordered new ones. Yep, everything on axle tight - I'd only just had that apart and checked anyway. There was a smidgen of slack on the cross member but only needing one good...

Transmission rumble

Grasping at straws I realise here but for one thing - since I don't know the cause of this problem I cannot categorise it. At around twenty and forty mph, both under power and on run-over, I get a vibration that starts as a rumble and eventually shakes something around like it was going to drop off ...

Heeley Farm Festival - Sheffield, 22nd June

Traditional Enlgish Fair in some respects; animals, food, ale, children's entertainment, classic vehicles and my band kick off at 12.30 on the farm stage:)
