Re: 2 MOT or not 2 MOT
Not all cars have the buffer spacers… another variation was the upright part of the battery tray just had a rectangular piece of thin black plastic stuck to it, and the clamp likewise to insulate it.

Re: Under dash switch.... for fuel pump?
More roads were de-restricted then and there was no speed limit on motorways. Better cars had variable intensity panel lighting for the same reason. I would've thought that someone who claims to have worked on aeroplanes would know all about the effect of extraneous light sources on night vision.

Re: Under dash switch.... for fuel pump?
The only logical reason for the switch was to save about 15% of battery demand when parking with the sidelights on and try to keep a bit more to start the car. The main reason was actually to allow the driver to switch panel lights off at night to avoid unwanted glare on dark roads. I use the facil...

Re: 2 MOT or not 2 MOT
Shouldn't need an MoT test to pick that up, however it wouldn't surprise me if some people just carried on. I have seen many cars that look nice and shiny on top but are absolutely rotten underneath.

These engines are a doddle to start on the handle, but a useful feature is the ability to set valve clearances. There were cars with 6 cylinder engines of over 4 litres capacity - try starting one of those on the handle.

Re: Physical fitting of new Switches e.g for Hazards (basics)
I would obtain a Lucas 155 unit or equivalent and fit it under the parcel shelf as arrowed then feed the wires up the back.

The heavy duty van wheels. Or there is usually a firm advertising in Minor Matters for even wider wheels but anything wider than the van wheels looks incongruous.

Re: Radiator Drain Tap
Tap needs to come off to clean it properly, yes it will almost certainly be blocked with silt, radiator bottom tank can then be cleaned out. Re-fill with SOFT water and antifreeze.

Re: What are reverse lights for?
Like most things the design of cars in the 21st Century has gone to pot, with light clusters so arranged that it's hard to distinguish an indicator flashing, amongst other things. Then some bright sparks decided it was a good idea to tint all rear windows very dark, a marvellous idea for when you ne...

With respect if you don’t know what you are doing, leave it to someone who does. Steering is safety critical.

Re: Clutch
Before condemning the clutch have you checked to see if the slave cylinder is returning ‘off’ quickly? As you say it happens with ‘enthusiastic engagement’ (a racing start?) it may be due to lag in the hydraulic system. I believe the standard clutch and pressure plate are more than up to the job for...

Re: Wheelnut torque
It is very easy to strip the thread of the tiny wheel nuts and leave a spiral of metal on the stud. They don’t need doing up with any great force. The threads should be cleaned from time to time.

Re: RB106 Modifications and Repairs
Yes it is easy for someone used to working with electronics and components but you have to adapt your control box to fit it by gutting the two bobbins, resistor etc and enlarging holes in the base to pass the wires through, and come up with your own method of attaching the wires to the existing term...
