Re: Faulty Parts - Advise needed
As much as I agree about poor quality parts I can see both sides of this discussion so maybe some sort of compromise can be reached .Rathre than a witch hunt on the open forum cannot something be set up on the members area only under a new heading , which prior to any posting can be vetted as suitab...

Re: series 2 steering rack
That is a very good suggestion ,but what I am trying to do is have a spare rack ready for fitment when required , so I suppose the next logical step is for me to go to the wanted section and see what if any racks would be available

Re: series 2 steering rack
The only reason I thought about the small track rod ends was because the ones on my car are new and only done 300 ish miles but then again if I do not change or have to change the recon rack for several years I will have to buy new track rod ends so the bigger thread type rod ends will be fine

Spare distributor
Following BMC advice in various posts about what spares to carry I now come to the subject of a spare dizzy type 25D4 for my car but I am confused , they seem to be available new on some web adverts for about £40 ish which includes everything including the vacuum unit and in some cases a free red ro...

Re: New exhaust clamp
As you rightly say way over the top but with this design it supports the total cone on the exhaust system , the steel nuts were only for manufacture to bolt the 2 halves together during turning ,brass nuts now fitted during assembly to car

New exhaust clamp
I have been trying to cure a persistent exhaust leak from the manifold to exhaust pipe joint with no success, I have one of the horrible pressed type clamps .Unable to buy a cast type clamp anywhere as I am told they are a lot better I decided to make my own clamp from a piece of mild steel bar of a...

Re: Front engine mounts
Thanks again BMC I had thought about doing this ie nothing but I also thought it was part of the MOT to look at the mounts although my car is MOT exempt I am determined to keep it to the MOT standard so I can justify a very good standard of self maintenance,

Front engine mounts
I noticed today the first signs of a problem with the front engine mounts , it looks like the rubber part is starting to come away from it backing plate . As they are quite cheap to buy my question is what is the proceedure for changing them with the engine in the car it looks a bit awkward with the...

Re: carb fuel leak
I have not got to the bottom of this yet but after looking at the S U website the best guess I can come up with is that there is a captive rubber seal in the jet block where it meets the mixture adjusting nut , I have not found any picture that actually shows any other seal at all , I can only assum...

Re: carb fuel leak
Thanks all the settings are fine, my concern is that this brass tube is just a sliding fit within the jet block with no apparent seal at all , may be during running and under vacuum conditions it cannot leak but as soon as the engine is switched off any residual fuel can leak down this tube , it mus...
