Re: Temp Guage problem
Doh, snapped the nut off, left with a threaded hole (Brass lined?) in the block, the temp guage seems to tighten up OK, and isn't leaking water, I'll see this evening how it holds up under pressure. Fingers crossed for First Fire up after what must be one of the longest Head Gasket changes ever. Unl...

Temp Guage problem
My 1275 head has a temp guage fitted into the block. When re-tightening the fitting that is housed in the block has cracked and leaks water. I am afraid to force this fitting, any offers how to remove, or re-engineer offending problem?

Setting Tappets
When setting tappets I know I adjust by rule of 9, BUT, do I adjust 8 when spring is compressed on 1, or when spring is open on 1?? Simple question I know, but I'd like to be sure

Re: Advice on Head Gasket Fitting
It was all going so well!! The last stud ( short rearmost ) is unwilling to move. I used the combined nuts on the other studs and they released like a dream, the last stud feels like it is going to snap rather than loosen, the 2 nuts, even when locked dont seem to do the business, I am afraid of sna...

Re: Advice on Head Gasket Fitting
Thanks for the offer islip, but I think West Yorks is a bit far for a Sunday run out. I'll try and give the block a better clean before refitting the head.

Re: Advice on Head Gasket Fitting
Well I was told its a 1275 940g. No I wont be regrinding the valves as the effort it has taken to get this far has me at the limit of my endurance. I have had to remove more things than I thought to get the Head off. I'll clean up the Head before I put it back on though ( if that seems a good plan?)...

Re: Advice on Head Gasket Fitting
Cheers BMC, in the 3rd photo I have "skimmed" the surface of the block with a Stanley Blade, and shall clean out the Pistons with a Hoover AND a cloth tomorrow! I was mainly worried about piston 4 with the discolouration, but if you reckon its OK I'm happy so far. SHOULD be done tomorrow, ...

Advice on Head Gasket Fitting
Managed to get the Head off today, I am posting up pictures before and after cleaning the block. Should I clean the block more? If so how and with what? The old Gasket failed between cylinder 3 & 4, there appears to be a mark there, even after cleaning. Cylinder 4 seems to be "burned" ...

Re: Engine block studs loose
Thanks for the replies, the stud furthest from the front,of 5, is one which has come loose. It has no exposed thread to lock a nut on to, and the fine threads below the nut look stripped/flat. I have a Mini supplier near me, would a Mini head stud be a direct swap? I hope so as £2.50 is what a new o...

Engine block studs loose
I've just got round to changing the cylinder head gasket on Barney, our 1275 Headed Traveller. I've been quite ill for a while so am just back able to do Mechanics! 2 studs have unwound from the engine block (maybe thats why the Head Gasket blew??) So I need new ones I assume? Put in using Loctite a...

Re: Clutch relay housing
So I was a just adjusting my clutch; and when I tested it, this happened: [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1357745598_16899 [/frame] I've ordered a new housing and brush, but what I want to know is do I have to dismantle the whole assembly, or can I just remove the old housing and slip th...
