Re: By way of Introduction...
Long time no post.... Apparently after a mere 8 months, the car is back from the painters on Monday! Is this a record? In the meantime I have been tinkering with this...[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1404206525_18136 [/frame] A 72 midget... Now to try and remember where all the bits to t...

Re: 71 Traveller project
Welcome! As above really, lots of choice for spares but I was really happy with the quality and value of the Woodies frame I bought last year. Support and advice was also second to none.

Did you know?
I just received a letter saying that even though my car is taxed, it is un-insured and therefore I may be committing an offence, even though it's in a thousand pieces off-road and in my shed. I always believed that an off-road car with a valid tax disc didn't need to be SORN, but apparently the law ...

Great start and what a nice gaff to work in! Good luck with the new arrival - do they do boiler suits for newborns?

Re: By way of Introduction...
Hi, I need a quick decision. The painter has had trouble with the cellulose maroon b paint I supplied him, so I've told him to go with 2k. Apparently it needs to be taken back and redone. Being really honest my favourite colour for a traveller is white so I'm now tempted to change the colour (if he ...

Re: By way of Introduction...
I've neglected the project for a while as life got in the way, but on the home straight now. I spent a number of hours fine finishing the rather excellent Woodies frame and it's currently drying from its base coat of 50/50 Cuprinol and Cetol. Even after hours of fine finishing a couple of minor mark...

Re: Is that for sale ?
Only the once, which is a lot seeing it was the first time it saw the light of day after I finished the bodywork - and that was by the driver who took it to the paint shop -it's still not painted .
Re: Body work
Sounds about right, that was what people were asking more or less when I checked, (although I didn't have the whole lot done in the end, as I did a lot myself). A recommendation is good, as some blasting companies do cars as a sideline. Blasting can cause distortion or damage if not done correctly, ...

Re: Brake upgrade
Thanks guys. New linings and shoes it is. The access is good enough to upgrade later, so lets see how it goes with a properly set up system. I did wonder what was involved in the DOT 5 switch. Can you just drain the old stuff and replace?

Re: By way of Introduction...
Oh ok - I'm always up for not doing something but i would have thought that the rear seal conversion would have been a good idea. I guess i'm reacting to the mess left by a seal fitted 35 years ago, a new one will probably perforn a bit better!

Re: By way of Introduction...
One thing I forgot was that oily mess of an engine so started to strip it whilst there's space in the shed. Its completely caked in thick grime and oil - the pics show it after a clean! All looks ok so far - 2 push rods got coked in place and winding out the bolts was a pain and the manifold bolts w...

Re: Brake upgrade
Thanks. The brakes are good, but there's no denying the pedal force required is high by modern standards - is that just my car? Ideally I want the missus to feel confident with the brakes and less pedal force should help. Everything else is standard. It is going to be a daily runabout car (so no ral...

Brake upgrade
I see this topic is a regular favourite, but I'm a bit confused - any advice appreciated. In a nutmeg we would like to upgrade the brakes on the Traveller (the car is a bare shell, so this seems like the time to do it). Finances are stretched due to the restoration, so we're looking for the best/che...

Re: By way of Introduction...
She's left me! It's been a busy few weeks. I set myself a deadline to get the body prep finished, by booking a tow truck and the spray shop - a good idea in hindsight as it all got done and now the drive and shed are strangely empty. I've gone for original colours, in cellulose - Maroon B, OLW grill...

Re: Is there a FIX?
Try Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead. They sold me a replacement cover with a rubber vw seal they machined into it (replacing the old scroll seal). I also picked up a new seal for the prop shaft end while I was at it. Mine's a 1098 box for which they had the parts from stock, but they may well be ab...
