Steering Wheel Swap

Hi having recently bought a '68 1098 2 door saloon, I'm disappointed in the plastic later steering wheel.
Question, can I swap this for the earlier three spoke "Banjo" wheel and if so, is it a straight swap?

Home made spray booth

Hi fellow Morristers, A tip I picked up from a social media website that posts useful life hacks. If you need to spray up small items, you can make a spray booth from a large cardboard box. (See photos) For lighter items you can suspend them from a wire hook pushed through the top and you can rotate...

Re: Half shafts length

Hi Guys Thanks for all the help. Today I'm going to park Mowwisss smack bang in the middle of the garage and measure up. If I don't have the clearance, then it'll have to be one side at a time with the rolling trolley jack method. However, I'm very drawn to the "Hole in the wall" idea. Now...

Half shafts length

Hi fellow Morristers,
Can anyone tell me the exact length of the standard halfshaft on a Morris Minor.
I want to calculate the distance required to remove both of them, if possile, in my narrow garage.
Thanks in anticipation

Re: Checking differential oil

Hi I agree with all the above but would like to add a comment about the type of oil used. See this https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=66644&p=604215&hilit=Diff+oil#p604215 I recently had probs with the diff (See "Diff Ratios" Post above) and I there's a po...

Re: Diff Ratios

Thanks guys for all the info, I think that I'll go for it, as the car could do with a little more top speed. I've always been worried that on the Motorways and Dual carriageways, we can only cruise at about 45 mph, sometimes 50 mph. It gets a bit scary when people zoom up your backside and then pull...

Re: Diff Ratios

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the prompt replies.
The actual ratio is 8/43 which equates to 5.375:1.
So, 4.55 should make a good difference!
Thanks again

Hi,
It's got the later banjo type casing, not the earlier split axle.

Hi fellow Morristers, I have a 1954 Series II with the original 803cc engine which is in good nick and currently running like a Swiss watch, having been completely overhauled about 5000 miles ago. The gearbox is the original unit and so far, working OK. Total mileage mileage of the car is 67,000 mil...

Cleaning and restoring leather seats on 1954 S2

Hi, I am after some advice about cleaning and conditioning some very old and dirty red leather front seats, that have been left to the elements for some time. Physically, they are in good nick, so if anyone has successfully done this then I'd be obliged for any help. I did come across a Standard 10 ...

Re: Fitting rear wings

Hi, I, in the long distant past, have successfully used "No Nonsense" Roof and Gutter sealant from B&Q at about 4 quid a tube. You will need a sealant gun, again from B&Q about £1.50. I used it on the wings, wing piping and when I replaced the fuel tank. It cured a long standing wat...

Re: Magnets in drain plugs

Re last post from bmceccosse, I have a friend who spends his life trawling around car boot sales for old computer hard drives, just for the magnets in them (he's a magnet freak!). They are usually the rare earth type and very strong and he has taken to dropping one in the filter casing of his eurobo...

Re: bouncy speedo!

Hi, Re bouncy speedo needle, I tried all of the above on our 1954 Ser 2 with the old jukebox style dash. All to no avail. It was only when I took out the speedo head and dismantled it, that I found the problem. I found the drive to the Odometer was almost, but not quite seized, thus causing the spir...

Roof Lining restoration

Hi, Several years ago, at a classic car show, I spoke to a bloke who "restored" his roof headlining by painting it with what I think was gloss paint. It was on a '58 Ford Anglia fitted with a cloth material and it had the benefit of "tightening up" the slack lining and also brigh...

Re: New 9.5 gall. fuel tank.

Hi, I've ordered the heritage tank today from DSN and even with VAT and postage it is still cheaper than other suppliers. I have given up on the drain plug and hope that I never have too much in the tank to have to remove. As to the wheel under the bonnet idea, it was originally suggested by bmcecos...

Re: New 9.5 gall. fuel tank.

Hi Guys, thanks again for the responses. I think that now I'm leaning towards the original type tank although, the spare wheel under the bonnet routine does sound good and I remember seeing this on one of our local Merseyside club member's cars. As for the fuel gauge sender, this is fitted with the ...

Re: New 9.5 gall. fuel tank.

Hi, thanks for the responses. I too, cant really see the need for a larger tank, as this car only really does a couple of hundred miles a year and is also kept in readiness as backup transport when our other cars give up the ghost! The larger tank is £23 quid cheaper exc. VAT (Pro!) and does have th...

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone out there in Moggieland has fitted the new high capacity tank available and if they had any probs or have any hints and tips for fitting of same. I have the dilemna of deciding which to fit to my '54 SerII saloon after numerous problems with a standard tank fitted i...
