Canopy/tent/cover for those without a garage?
I'm looking for advice on a way of protecting the car from the elements when not being driven. I've heard that close fitting covers are a bad idea and was taken by the drive in tent type efforts. They seem to lie flat or semi flat when no in use and kind of pop up and over when in place I have very ...

Re: Mystery dipstick markings
We have the answer, as bmecosse suggested I did a complete oil change and put the correct amount of oil in (6.5pints)
The level now comes to the original max mark, so I will ignore the other one
Thanks for your input

Re: Mystery dipstick markings
The picture isn't v good. The top notch above Max runs across the blade like the others, but looks like it has been added by using a hacksaw.

Mystery dipstick markings
Here's a puzzle; 1098 engine with a dipstick that has 3 notches, min, max and sort of super-max. Which level should I fill to? The engine was a recon unit fitted about 10 years ago if that sheds any light. Its just slightly unsettling that the max may not be enough[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage....

Thanks for advice
But what about the gasket / head contact. Would that be

(b) blue goo
(c) impact adhesive
(d) grease

Rocker cover gasket leak
I took the rocker cover off to replace the heater tap - better access. Heater tap fine and not leaking, but the problem has moved to the rocker cover. Since then I've had a load of grief..... The original rocker gasket was shot and leaking so I put on a new one. Problem is that it stays in place fin...

Now heater tap....!
The good news, the new rad is good and working. The bad news is that I've discovered another much smaller leak from the heater isolator tap / valve. After tightening the nuts that secure it to the head - they both went a 1/4 turn at least so a bit slack - there is still a very small dribble from the...

Re: Step by step radiator replacement ?
All done and very straightforward. I am thinking that I should run the engine with the rad cap off for a few minutes to get rid of any airlocks....or is that silly?
Thanks for your help

Step by step radiator replacement ?
Hi, 2 questions perhaps someone can help with please. I have discovered a small leak in my radiator and I am under a bit of time pressure due to work and an impending long trip. I am getting/ordering new rad tomorrow and have limited time (and expertise) to remove the old one and replace it. Any tip...

Re: "new" wiper motor - missing something? - update
They told me today that " we would advise retaining the old gear shaft and cog ". Me " where does it say that on the online shop? ", them - " it doesn't, but we will now change it" I had already returned the old one, so the missing part is now on its way back to me. Thi...

Re: "new" wiper motor - missing something?
Thanks for confirming that Bob,
Great isn't it? Just tried to ring them with no luck, probably closed this week, so have sent them an email. Really annoying as I paid for premium shipping to get it quickly - which I am reclaiming - and had already returned my old unit
Doh!

"new" wiper motor - missing something?
Just fitting a recon wiper motor and when I opened it up to connect the cable there seems to be something missing - ie the large cog Before I go back to "cow sign" spares and complain, can someone just confirm that you would expect to see this cog in a recon unit - surely......?[frame] htt...

Re: Power loss - think fixed now but what caused it?
Bob, just sourcing the replacement wire. What amps should I choose - 8.75/14 /21 /30? The fuses are all 35amp so I am thinking that the wire will go before the fuse at any of these amperage values

Re: Power loss - think fixed now but what caused it?
I should have mentioned that I replaced the condenser as a precaution. Bob, re replacing burnt out wire, do you think the wire hidden in the loom is also damaged? I was thinking of fitting new wire and simply bypassing the whole run of damaged wire, both the visible and invisible parts, maybe taping...

Power loss - think fixed now but what caused it?
I had a misfiring, loss of power problem recently. No warning at all, car ran perfectly on outward trip then after being parked for a couple of hours, conked out after 100 yards with total loss of power. Afterwards, having been recovered to home, I got it running for about 15 minutes but it was unev...

SOLVED! No power to 3/4 fusebox, ignition OK, stray wire
Hi everyone, thank you all so much for your help and patience with this. I was indeed measuring the current incorrectly and the one fuse that I thought was working, was the only one that wasn't! In my defence the fuse 'looked' perfect. Fuse replaced, all now fine and dandy So the stray wires etc wer...
