Re: 1960 4 Door Saloon

Here is the Bonnet Hinge, Before and After Picture, Lots of very oily wet and dry, then car paintwork scratch remover/compound. A dab of Brasso and they're like new! Obviously not finished completely, but its a good start! Luke That is chuffing brilliant, well done that man :D That hinge is quite a...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

To get right up to date, I`ve started on the brakes. The master cylinder looks far worse than it actually is. Inside is like brand new, so it`s had a set of seal in it and been bench pressure tested with perfect results. It`s fitted and I`ve started making the brake pipes. http://8.t.imgbox.com/AvhK...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

I left my mate to it and paced around outside the paintshop like an expectant father :) A couple of hours later and several coats of 2 Pack Old English White paint I was allowed to see the finished article. http://8.t.imgbox.com/wuZyFK5B.jpg http://8.t.imgbox.com/H3FaW9Hd.jpg http://0.t.imgbox.com/M...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

Underneath all the paint, the body was actually in really good nick, with just a couple of very small dents and a couple of minor imperfections. All were easily filled and it was then given a few coats of primer. Now I know some purists will say to etch prime, red oxide then prime, but I spoke to my...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

Update time again, seems so long since the last one, but the garage has been busy, which is bad in that I haven`t had much time to work on the Moggy, but good because it`s bringing in the money to pay for it ;) So, having got the boot, bonnet and front panel in primer, they were put away safely so I...

Re: ticking noise

Tickover quiet, revving the engine made it louder. Driving the car, then yes it got louder under load, but really bad on over-run, letting your foot off the throttle downhill etc. Listening to the engine with a large screwdriver for a stethescope, the noise was most prominent at the top of the engin...

Re: ticking noise

Only saying this due to the experience I had with a similar noise from the rear of the engine. Mine was found to be one of the tensioner rubbers had come off the camshaft timing gear. Replaced the lot and the engine ran as smooth as a wristwatch. No way would I have associated the noise from the rea...

Re: Really bad engine noise on over-run

Success. I`ve found and cured the problem. However, this can be used as a lesson in that the fault doesn`t always mean it`s where the noise is. The noise was distinctly around number four cylinder. No matter where I put the screwdriver stethoscope, the noise was loudest in that area. However, on str...

Re: Painting Engine - Primer to Use ?

I`ve never used primer on an engine, just a thorough clean and degrease beforehand. One thing people can forget is to make sure any gasket sealant that has been used is removed from all the joints as most contain silicone. Paint doesn`t like silicone. Personally, I spray engines with 2 pack paint, i...

Re: Really bad engine noise on over-run

hi did it have new cam bearings ? i had a rebuilt 2.8 ford v6 which had a similar noise and after a lot of investigation it was traced to a worn cam bearing , Yep new bearings fitted. I always get them fitted when I have the rebore done and I always check to make sure the oil holes are lined up bef...

Re: Really bad engine noise on over-run

I had a very similar problem with an MGB after a rebuild, same noise when hot,and from the rear of the engine, turned out to be the distributor drive shaft,A ser engine has the same type of drive, would be worth having a look at yours, may be the same, its a part thats not very often changed on a rebuil...

Really bad engine noise on over-run

Right, where do I start. Fully rebuilt engine, rebore, new pistons/rings, crank ground, new shells/thrusts, new oil pimp, water pump, rocker shaft, timing chain, everything. Anything else that was used (camshaft, followers etc) were cleaned and checked before assembly. I`ve built shedloads of these ...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

Stripped the front panel down and found the inner peice to be well rotten. Cut that section out and made a replacement http://t.imgbox.com/bcnBDCgj.jpg That`s in primer now, along with the front panel itself, just didn`t take a picture The bonnet on the car is knackered. Can be repaired, but someone...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

On with the panels. Started grinding off the rusts spots from the boot lid with the soft pad, then with 80 grit DA pads. Sadly, all that was happening was the paint flaked away. Worse still, rubbing down the top exposed a chunk of filler. No problem there, but it was coming away from the metal. Bugg...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

While the suspension was off, it gave me the chance to strip it all, clean it up and put it back together, saves doing it later. http://t.imgbox.com/YZ8pIQAx.jpg http://t.imgbox.com/dUjVfF2r.jpg http://t.imgbox.com/uiFuenrq.jpg I started to do the same with the N/S suspension, but the bottom trunnio...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

Back again. Time for a progress report. Have dipped in and out of working on the Moggy due to being quite busy with those pesky modern motors, but i have to get funding from somewhere ;) Now armed with a large supply of new grinding discs, I set about tidying up the rear wheel arches and giving them...

Re: 1954 series 11 black 4 door

That`s looking really, really good, looking forward to seeing the finished set of photos. I love looking at the various stages of a project, those pictures are worth their weight in gold, but the finished article is the the one that gives the inspiration to go on and do it :)

Cheers

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

While I`m waiting for the chassis legs, I thought I`d tackle the rotton boot lid. I cut away the bad stuff inside and out, made up the new bits and tacked them into place. I did the outer bit while the boot lid was still on the car so I could get the lines and gaps right. When that was achieved, I f...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

Been a while, but time for an update. With the floor and inner sills done it was time to tackle the outer sills, so they were cut away and the remaining metal cleaned up for the new metal to be welded in. A coat of shutz will keep the water off and gave the floor a quick coating of white shutz for t...

Re: 1969 4 Door Saloon New Project

Onto the inner wings then. Hit them with the grinder to see how bad they were. Bad, but not too bad. Cut out all the rotten bits and welded in some plates. The rear wings have had some really bad repairs done to them previously. The plates welded in were good, strong and did the job, just looked blo...
