Thanks Pete
I don't fully remember but ESM is certainly a good bet as mogbob suggested. I still haven't fitted it yet! Car is still in bits.

Re: Spring hanger front collapsed - repair strategy

Thanks Gavin, that diagram alignment chart is really good. I will measure up and see where I think it will be welded in. The bump stops and axle etc are still on the car. I've got a full new spring leaf kit to go in.

Re: Spring hanger front collapsed - repair strategy

I've tidied it up now. I'm thinking to give some new metal in the edges to make it stronger. I need to put a new boxing plate in and then reckon that the spring hanger plate will butt up against it nicely. Im now thinking to build a frame out of wood with the correct measurements which I need to get...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Managed to do some prep work after the weather was better. Getting an idea of putting new metal in to strengthen where the spring hanger plate will go.

Re: Spring hanger front collapsed - repair strategy

Apologies for opening a 5 year old thread, I forgot it was here and found it while searching Google for tips. I have finally flipped the car on it's side and stripped it down. If anyone can give me guidance on my approach it would be very much appreciated. And if anyone is around the Leeds area to e...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

I will order those brake pipes! Thanks you. I also have the plates for the hangers. They seem to overlap the floor and not sure about the rear one. It seems to go in as I have shown?

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Yes exhaust will be coming off and anything else I can get my hands on including all the brake system and replaced. This is the first time i've had access to the under side. I think I can see how I need to make the new steel plates that will support the spring hangers that have gone through. It will...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Colour preferences noted! Green will be considered. :)

Just had some nice neighbours come over and 3 of us managed to flip it with ease.

See the MAJOR work on the spring hangers which I always knew about. I've got some think sheet metal and new ends, now to try work out how it could be repaired.

Thank you for the wishes. And very good point, blue is popular. The other colours mentioned are maroon and blackcurrant. I'm sure we will continue thinking while the welding is happening.

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Been something like 7 years with work on and off. But now I am determined to get it on the road in some form or another (i hope) :D. A blue re-spray is currently front runner.

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

My old thread is still here from over 4 years ago and the car has been sat in my garage. Well I have had a lot more time lately and it is now out and ready to be tipped on it's side. Just waiting for a few guys who will be coming to help me. I've also started stripping the paint off the panels. I'm ...

Hi, not at the moment. The cold snap has meant staying indoors is much more favourable. But hoping to get back to it soon.

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Wow, this thread has got it all hasn't it! Now that you two have made up here's some more progress - Cut out the tunnel cover as it was taking too long to take out the welds so will deal with them later. I got the gearbox bolts out now so a success. And finally got both front wings off with minimal ...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

That last picture is brilliant, thanks Mark! I can see the side chassis line that I need to carry through when doing the front spring hangers. Don't think i'm going to build a rig to suspend it in the air as I don't have any scaffold pipes etc. So will go with the method i'm thinking of straight on-...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

It's ok, a little high jacking can reveal other things... like should I be worried about my saloon frame twisting? I'm planning on leaving the axle on although a new floor has been welded in and the rest seems fairly solid. In the picture imagine the doors gone, no bonnet, boot, tank, engine, gearbo...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Hi greendefender123 Just so you know the saying 'teaching your grannie to suck eggs' is reference to the time when old ladies (grannies) used to give painted eggs as gifts at Easter. They used to make two holes in the top of the egg and suck out it's contents most probably not then consuming them m...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Oh ideal im just getting mine ready for tip over onto old tyres aswell. Shame that gearbox tunnel turned into a problem so quickly. Maybe cut it out abit smaller and remount it differently? Tho im happy to have the access to the chassis legs. Really looking forward to seeing your progress. Let's se...

Re: Paaro - Morris Minor 1000 1957 4 door restoration

Thanks Steve, yes one step at a time works! So over the weekend my brother came round and after 5 hours of squabbling around we got the engine out. But we had welded the old tunnel cover down in some parts and so guess what will now have to take that off again to get access to the bolts holding the ...
