Hub caps
I'm mid restoration of a '55 saloon. The hub caps should be chrome and I'm undecided whether to buy new chrome or have the existing ones re-chromed. Has anyone bought brand new chromed caps (not stainless steel) and if so any feedback please? We hear lots about the quality of bumpers but I have not ...

Re: Rear Lights
After reading this post,I checked my not-yet-fitted series 2 aluminium light bases. I bought mine from a Minor dealer and I’m sure they are Minor.
However, they do have an identical gap to yours!
I’ll either be filling the gap or hoping that with the rubber base/gasket, it’ll lose some of the gap.

This is the link to the Better Car Lighting. I'm thinking of getting this kit for my 1958 Minor.

Re: Paint Companies?
I used oval about four years ago for Dark Green Morris colour. I only used them as no one else seemed to have the correct paint code for mixing Dark Green (to spray), but the paint seemed good and went on well. I've not used Craftmaster, but heard good reviews. For brushing paint, I use Paragon pain...

Re: Underside Finish
Not the black tar-y Shultz as that doesn’t take a top coat well, but a stonechip paint from a Shultz gun is good to then take a body colour top coat.

Re: Petrol Sender Unit
I own both a pre-war Minor and some post war Minors. Although they look the same, the senders are quite different. One good starting point is that a pre-war unit is 6v and a post war 12v.

Re: Wood for traveller - who kit is best ?
I bought my wood from the welsh company back in around 1999 or 2000. I think it was called ALT timbers from memory. The wood is still carefully stored as my 54 traveller project is still not quite ready for the wood yet! I bought it from there as I had heard good reports about it.

Re: Engine won't run
The plugs were just earthed against the cylinder Head. I gave the points a rough cleanup, but a proper bit of wet and dry and resetting the points may help. having said that, as the plugs were sparking, it should still have fired, or at least tried to fire. There was good oil pressure too, but it is...

Engine won't run
I'm trying to get a 1275 engine to run in a Minor that has not been run for some time. With a fully charged battery, I can get the plugs to spark happily. I have now got the petrol pump working and the dashpot is not stuck. Worried that the petrol may be old, I have swished a bit of fresh petrol thr...

Low oil pressure
I've had an oil pressure issue for a while with my 1098. When hot, the green oil light flickers on at tick over. I fitted a pressure gauge to establish exactly what it was. So...when cold it rises to 40lbs but when warm, it ticks over at around 4-5 lbs and on the motorway will only get to 18 or 20 l...

Interior renovation
We are renovating a late red saloon interior (1970). The vinyl is good condition, but quite faded in places, particularly the rear of the rear seat. We have found some vinyl spray at www.vinyldye.co.uk and they do a colour called bright red brillo aerosol, which looks like it should be a good match ...

Re: who should i buy stainless exhaust from?
Not sure if this is of any interest, but Just for the record, I bought a stainless exhaust around ten years ago from one of the main suppliers. It has given brilliant service until last week when the engine ground to a halt. ( the car is used daily as my only vehicle for commuting to work) After fur...

Tracking measurements?
Hi all. I have had my tracking checked by the local garage. I took along the minor toe in measurements in both metric and imperial. However, their equipment measures the tracking in degrees, and despite looking around, I can't find anywhere how many degrees it should be toe in? I am still convinced ...

Thanks for your advice...I'll just opt for a secondhand box then!
