Re: Speaker Position
I fitted a couple of small speakers into the footwell kick panels, just enough recess there into the kidney panel to take the speaker. I made new kick panels out of MDF so they were stronger, and covered them in the correct vinyl.
Works a treat and discreet.

Re: Gearbox woes
The rebuild guide was mine, I can't remember where it linked to now, possibly my dropbox ??. Do we have a files area on here where it could be loaded to. I personally would whip the box out, find a local engineering shop or someone with a TIG set and get them to weld it back on. I have a mate in the...

Piece of sheet, an hour in the workshop and you will replicate that no problem. I agree it looks like a dynamo bracket, with a piece of standard horn bracket attached to it.

Re: Door bottom repair
Spent some time today taking some measurments of the door for reference and started have a dig at the bottom. Found the spot welds along the long edge and popped them apart, rolled the skin up along the bottom edge. Quite a lot of rust in there so glad I am sorting it properly, at least I know its g...

Re: Earthing education.
No it's not soldered on, fits over the end of the post and is then retained by the C clip, which also keeps the drive to the rack retained as well. It makes contact with the brass pad in the cap, where the wire goes to. The wiper motor works by switching the earth, that contact in the cap is also ea...

Re: Earthing education.
You are missing the contact finger and c clip that holds it on, it makes contact with the lid, you can see the mark where it runs around. This is what sets the park position of the motor.
You can just see it in this picture

Re: Door bottom repair
Thanks, sure I can see them along the edge, and once I get a few free and can start teasing it apart sure I can work them out. What started as a simple job like everything else escalates First job is to sort out the top of the door by the handle and work out how to tidy that up, the edge of the skin...

Re: Door bottom repair
Thanks for the pics, useful. Where you have the Cleco in you picture are there spot welds along there, took the paint off along there and I am sure there are. Probably best to do that whole panel and easier / neater. Also discovered this mess near the top, someones been there before, and overworked ...

Door bottom repair
So my repair of the front door has escalated, as ever prodding and poking has revealed more rust, not bad but there and hiding. The door bottom has had a patch welded underneath, folded and then onto the skin for about 4" towards the front, so whats under there don't know. The flange of the doo...

Re: Door split by quarterlight
Annoyingly they are rechargeable cells in mine, and they are both fine. Putting a meter on them and supplying the solar cell with light increases the voltage. The solar cell by the looks of things is to charge the batteries, there are two photo diodes at each side underneath that sense the arc. I ha...

Re: Door split by quarterlight
What a stupid wasteful idea, you are quite right, just sprung it apart and there are two lithium cells in there. Its a Sealey helmet as well. Not tested them yet but I think that's a safe assumption as the helmet is a few years old now, and was working well a few weeks back. Being the careful non wa...

Re: Door split by quarterlight
Well I have taken the bull by the horns, if a jobs worth doing then its worth doing right. I have always had a couple of bubbles coming through the bottom of the door, so while the door is apart lets do the whole thing. Door is now off the car, there are some minor repairs to do along the bottom edg...

Re: Door split by quarterlight
That's brilliant Mark, I was wondering about plug welding a plate on from above, that's a whole lot easier. I can actually plug weld really well too, my seat mount plates are held on with a series of them through the floor pan. Guess what I am doing the next few days, first to fix my welding helmet ...

Re: Door split by quarterlight
Thanks both. I though it would need a plate behind, I am certain it has already just had a bead of weld down it, always been able to see it in the 5 years I have had the car, and it was a beating stick item when I bought it. Even with the door off it looks pretty tight in there to get the torch in, ...

Door split by quarterlight
Seems a common place for front doors to split here, a job I have been putting off sorting out for the last few years, the split has got no worse in that time. However on a rainy dull Sunday I have stripped the door down, removed the top frame etc etc so I can get to it properly. After cleaning the p...

Re: Downhill on motorways
Some modern cars now do it as well, I have a Mercedes with a 9 speed auto box, if I put it into E mode it will disconnect the engine and transmission, calls it glide mode. As soon as it feels the need to reconnect the two for reasons of control it does so. Dosent actually seem to make much differenc...

Re: cp pistons fitting direction
Usually there is a very slight offset of the gudgeon pin towards the thrust side of the engine, which I think if memory serves me right is the spark plug side of the A series.
