Re: Noise from engine under labour.

As promised, I can report now that the crankshaft replacement has been completed and the engine is back inside the car. Firstly the rumble I got for a few seconds after the cold start is gone. So too the knocking/rumble/clanging when accelerating at ca. 70km/h. Therefore it was the crankshaft at fau...

Re: Garage Floor paint

Before you apply any concrete paint, it is wise to put on a surface sealant to prevent the surface dusting again. I do not know what it is called in english but your DIY place will certainly know. Depending on the existing surface texture, you may also like to consider laying a self levelling screed...

Re: The awful joke thread

Translated from the German

A man drives his Trabant into the garage and asks the attendant.

"Have you got a wing mirror for my Trabby"?

The man behind the counter has a think and replies

"Yes, sounds like a fair swop to me"

Does not white smoke in exhaust indicate that water is getting into one or more cylinders?

The report was that the Mains were not too bad but the big ends needed doing. - whether that was really the cause of the noise.......?

Do check in you tube for decarbonising methods and what tools to use. I like the green scourer method myself together with WD40 (it is about all its good for!)

Re: Noise from engine under labour.

I had also considered these options and if the crankshaft regrinding does not cure the noise then that is one of the last possibilities. However in my case because enlarged pistons have been already fitted, i wish to assume they are ok. :( They can also be done with the engine back in the car and I ...

Re: Noise from engine under labour.

Yes , the engine runs quite smoothly now and does not overheat anymore. It has plenty of power and accelerates well. My noise however only appears when the engine is warmed up. I installed an oil pressure gauge which indicated, especially when the engine was warm, low pressure. So I replaced all the...

Re: Noise from engine under labour.

I have a similar problem...no, it is an identical problem albeit not on a Minor. I had replaced all the main bearings and the big end bearings to no avail. The pistons are oversize as yours are indicating to me that at some stage the Engine has been rebored. All this can be done without removing it ...

thankyou for that. I was trying to avoid the end fixing as it gets in the way when installing and setting up the end plate. Will persevere.

Re: Duplex chain tension.

I come back to this thread after I remembered the picture Phil posted with the engine fixed to an engine stand. In preparation to remove the Crankshaft for regrinding I purchased said engine stand but then realised I cannot fix it to the backplate of the engine as this must be reoved to take out the...

Re: Petrol pumps

Mine started leaking profusely earlier today. My neighbour had often said he could smell petrol when it was parked but I could never find any leak around the tank. Now I know. I have removed the pump and cleaned up the joint but not tested it yet. As above, if the leak persists - it was more a fount...

Wobbly Water Pump Pulley

Whilst checking the front end of my 69 Traveller I noticed the fan was loose even though its 4 fixing bolts were tight. It seems that the rotating spindle of the pump itself is quite wobbly. New pumps are cheap enough (quality??) but has anyone dismantled a pump and successfully repaired it? Worksho...

Just to tidy up the thread. Having dismantled the gear lever I discovered that not only was the rubber ring missing but also the anti rattle plunger and its spring. ESM odered, arrived, installed. No more strong noise. :D

Re: Stuttering at 50+

If a lot of crud is coming from the fuel tank as surmised, would not the filter in the fuel pump become continually blocked? If it is not then there must be another root cause soemwhere.
