Re: Voltmeter -false low readings

yes, but only the "I" terminal is regulated to 10V, more or less.. The "B" terminal is just a connection point and is a nominal 12V..........only in my case it isn't..

Re: Voltmeter -false low readings

Hallo Berni, thankyou for your suggestion - I will try to give the ignition switch a clean and see what happens. Your nice diagramme interpretation is perfect. Incidentally a Brian Hawley, who may well be a MMOC member, has downloaded this excellent colour wiring diagramme. https://www.dropbox.com/s...

Voltmeter -false low readings

I want to install an aftermarket Voltmeter in my 69 Traveller. However, when I connect it up via the incoming green wire to the voltage regulator, it only registered 10V. And no, it was not attached to the fuel gauge output. So back to basics. Using an extension wire I connected it directly to the p...

Re: Mixture Problems (too rich)

In preparation for a trip to Europe this Summer (and anticipating traffic jams in heat) I have fitted a stainless steel carburettor heat shield and Grumpy rising fuel pipe heat shield. I have actually never experienced fuel vaporisation in this car but I thought I would take precautionary measures b...

Re: Electrical issue

I had already surmised that this was the case so cleaned up the fuse clips and now all is well. The fuse box itself seems in quite reasonable condition and does not need replacing. i might however supplement it in future. It was nice to drive it again ('69 Traveller) after the winter lay off on dry ...

Re: Electrical issue

There always seems to be something new that appears after the annual winter hibernation. I have just replaced the tappet covers with new gaskets as one used to leak oil excessively. As ever, the central bolt had not been put back with the correct gaskets and just using silicon. My test drive earlier...

Re: Manifold flange thickness

i have stumbled across this thread because having removed the manifold from my 1098 Traveller in order to gain access to the tappet covers, I wanted to know if when replacing the gasket ( a new one) it should be smeared with grease or not? That seems to be the case. I noticed when removing the nuts ...

If you do decide to convert to LHD, then perhaps my thread on experiences will be useful

Re: A most peculiar noise

kevin s wrote: Thu Sep 14, 2023 9:20 pm Is that when you fully press the pedal and disengage the drive or just a light pressure on the pedal.
It is when I fully press the clutch pedal down. I did this experiment downhill. The rotational noise does not seem to be there when I press the accelerator.

Re: A most peculiar noise

UPdate. The rotational noise. It disappears when the clutch pedal is pressed. Thus my conclusion is, it emanates from the thrust bearing. Remember that the Minor clutch is released by mechanical means. This means that the whole engine/transmission is displaced slightly when the pedal is depressed. ...

first motion shaft = layshaft?? I thought about that as well - But then I would not expect to hear anything in 4th gear.

Re: A most peculiar noise

Now here's a puzzle..... What sort of rubbing noise would you describe it like, is it harsh and metallic, or perhaps more gentle like there is something in between the surfaces, you did say like a 'brake liner', but I always think those are more of a 'squeak' or 'squeal'... Does it sound lik...

Just to tidy up the thread. with everything fixed, the TüV man was happy with my handywork on both the brake line supports and the rubber bushes and I am greatly relieved.

A most peculiar noise

I know that of course "noises" cannot be efectively diagnosed in a written forum and taking a picture of a noise is even more difficult, however..... In normal driving of my 69 Traveller I hear a sort of intermiitant rubbing noise coming from the underside , possible near to and around the...

Re: Brake line fixing - really?

No oil came out on its own until I started to move the arms - then it was Victoria falls. Since then have refilled with 20W oil and it seems that neither is leaking. Certainly the arms are very stiff to move which must be good. I have replaced one unit and as Philthehill remarked, it is a bit of a f...

Re: Brake line fixing - really?

I seem to have deviated away from the the brake lines but......took both the dampers off, cleaned them up as well as the arms. The Damper itself, underneath all the black dirt is in a sort of grey anodised finish. Looks quite nice. The arms I have painted gloss black. Went to remove the existing oil...

Re: Brake line fixing - really?

Hallo Phil, Yes they will be replaced soonest and need to be now for the TüV man. I intend to remove the damper, clean it up and replace the oil as shown on other threads here ( by yourgoodself included) . I am sure it has hardly ever been changed and certainly not in the 12 years I have had the car...
