Re: Do the wheels still fall off??
sorry, could you clarify something for me, exactly which part failed here? Reason I ask is because I'm soon to replace all the bushes on the front suspension, so would be good for me to check all the relevant bits for wear while I'm doing that, especially whatever caused this. A guy I know had this ...

Small fuel leak where fuel pipe goes into tank
Hi all, So a few weeks back i removed the tank entirely to do some welding in the boot. Then only tonight have I actually filled it almost full with fuel and i had a fairly fast drip (drip every 3 seconds) coming from where the fuel pipe fixing (the pipe to the pump at the front). Obviously this is ...

Leaking front dampers
Hi all, Both my front dampers are leaking the damper oil, and after some investigation this afternoon it appears to be from the 'arm' bit, for want of a better description. I topped up both dampers this afternoon and one started dripping straight away. That was the one that took most to refil which ...

Thinking ahead....(ref front wheel fixings etc)
Hi all, So, Monty has a dodgy crossmember bodge-fix (previous owner) whereby the end was rotting away so someone welded a strengthening plate onto the side of the crossmember, between the two nuts that hold the torsion bar/plate in place. It effectively means, that until I renew that part of the cro...

Re: Flexible (?) filler for after welding?
Thanks ChickenJohn, duly noted about the lap-weld/butt-weld preferences. I reckon I will be re-doing this area again in a few years, when I have perfected my welding techniques! At the moment I can't get a decent continuous seam weld of any sort, hence the above being a series of spot/tack welds. I ...

Flexible (?) filler for after welding?
Hi all, I've just finished welding in a new corner into the boot area, my first ever on-car welding (very chuffed  ). [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1430688099_21227 [/frame] ...and there are some gaps that could do with some sort of filler just to stop muck getting caught in them, ...

Re: rear springs
super, thanks both. Good tip about not tightening up the shackle bolts fully until the car is down on the ground, and don't worry, I never go under the car unless its on ramps (with bricks wedged front/back of all remaining wheels, and bricks wedged into the slats on the ramps too so the car couldn'...

Re: rear springs
It's pretty much a full day job. Support the car very well..... Soak the fittings in Release Oil a few days before. Make sure the bump stops are either in good order and fit for reuse - or have new ones to hand. I would fit polyurethane bushes rather than rubber.... And take the chance to drain the...

Re: Replacing rear bump stop - process
Ok, i've removed the tank this evening, good job too as there was some rust on the bodywork lip that the tanks sits on so I'm dealing with that. When it comes to putting the tank back though, i can't see any petrol tank gaskets from the usual suppliers (Bull Motif, ESM, Charles Ware etc)......am i l...

Re: Replacing rear bump stop - process
Understood, will probably drain and remove, could do with a wire brush down and lick of paint around the rim (of the hole left by the tank).

Will probably drain petrol tank before welding anyway.

Re: Replacing rear bump stop - process
Thanks Phil, all very useful info. I've another question while we're in that area of the car  Ref removing the rear pin of the spring, so that I can lower the spring away from the body to do some welding in the very rear corner of the boot (drivers side to start with). Is this the process: 1) r...

Re: Replacing rear bump stop - process
Matt A job for another day. Take the spring leaves apart and clean the crud from between the spring leaves. From your photo the crud is pushing the leaves apart. Could lead to a broken spring if left to get worse. Phil Good idea, thanks Phil. Although I think new springs may be on the cards anyway,...

Re: Replacing rear bump stop - process
You may want to cut an inch off the stops to give better suspension travel without the 'thump' on the stops every time you drive over a leaf..... Have you changed the rear damper oil to SAE 40 ? Ah, will consider that option BMC, thanks. Next, or nearly next job on the list is rear seat belts, as n...

Re: Replacing rear bump stop - process
Job done, both sides. Surprisingly easy when you take it slow and follow instructions. Put new u-bolts and rubbers on both side, had a clean up too. I like it when a job is simple and done in a day, as opposed to taking everything apart, finding a further problem, having to order and wait for new pa...
