I have recently taken a part time job at Stoke Rochford Hall-It is close to the A1, almost in the middle of the country and is a magnificent country hotel, built around 1840, set in parkland and cl...

Re: Cylinder head

Thanks bmcecosse Ok-yes I might be a bit nuts in reducing the valve stem-the best i could do was polish afterwards. I do see your point now however in my mind as long as the stem was smooth and the valve had been re seated (ground in) I felt comfortable in rebuilding the head. Turning the shaft in t...

Re: Cylinder head

Many thanks all for your contributions. I have elected to turn the valve on a lathe and filed just enough so that the valve moves smoothly in the guide. I then smoothed down with emery, ground in all eight valves and then fitted springs etc. As for the blocked holes in the head and block-there seems...

Re: Cylinder head

Many thanks for the reply, very much appreciated. The result of the investigation showed that the valve guide appears to have shrunk in diameter??? The nos one valve would fit in the other valve guides and testing one of the remaining valves in the number one valve guide-it would not fit. The only s...

Many thanks

On a separate point, is there much demand for a good restoration pick up?

Identifying correctly the car you want to Buy

I am looking at a MM Pick Up on Ebay Ref 121745278796 Using The Potteries Branch "Identifying your car" the chassis number is showing the pick up as a van. The seller advises the V5 clearly states a V in the chassis reference and also states it is a pick up and originally Trafalgar Blue. Y...

Re: Paint codes & bodywork / trim colours

Hi I am renovating a 1968 MMT. having stripped to bare metal, the new colour will be Trafalgar Blue. In the paint charts the wheels are stated as dark silver. Does anyone have the correct paint number? The closest I have got is the Rover group list of colours for up to 1972 and the code is BLVC88. C...

Paint Code

I am in the middle of a full restoration for a 1969 MMT. I am deviating from the original colour and going Trafalgar Blue with snowberry white grill. Coachline is pearl grey and the wheels are dark silver. Does anyone know the ICI or BMC code for the dark silver please?
