Pistons

I've been looking at my spare engine, took the head off to reveal pretty grotty chambers with a couple of sticky valves that tapped back into place(been stood a long time). The piston crowns wiped clean very easily and revealed these markings. Is the 2007 a date stamp? or is it some other identifica...

Re: Engine Number

I think it should have, it's got the connection on the manifold and the breather on the tappet cover but it's piped direct to the carb - but I have a plan. Also got a rocker cover with a breather connection on my spare engine so that will be going on as well. There are different codes for cars and c...

Engine Number

The engine number on my traveller starts with 10V/189E/H7. Now I know the 'V' is the designation for van and the 'H' is for high compression but what I would like to know is could this be the original engine as the car is a late Adderley Park traveller built along side the LCV's. The V5C has the cur...

Re: Twin Carb Advantage?

A single 1 1/2" SU is preferable to the twin 1 1/4" for a normal road engine unless it is tuned and you are hammering it all the time. A resonance is set up in the inlet manifold by the pistons that acts on the carb, this is ironed out in the manifold somewhat with a single carb but twins ...

Make sure they know not to put the modern antifreeze in, be insistent on that.

Re: OK to put antifreeze in Traveller radiator?

Don't put the stuff in that's designed for modern engines, instead look for a one that's for use in 'older engines'. Halfords do it neat or ready mixed, if you get the ready mixed then you will have to drain the entire cooling system and re-fill with the mixture, no bad thing as it will get rid of s...

Re: oil light

The kit should have a wire to connect to the ignition light circuit you disconnected from the regulator, alternatively the wiring diagram is here.

Even with new standard dampers on the rear the difference will be very noticeable compared with the old ones.

Re: Problem with coolant not circulating

The heater is full of coolant then and if there was going to be an air lock that's where it would be, everything sounds fine :)

Re: Problem with coolant not circulating

Are the heater hoses warm? Make sure the heater control knob is on inside the car. If you are worried then turn the engine off, let it cool off a bit then take disconnect the rear heater hose and pour some coolant down it. If the engine is full then coolant should pour out of the open end on the eng...

Re: Problem with coolant not circulating

About 5litres - with heater, have you got the heater valve open? The wisps of steam is probably just the radiator drying out.

Re: Problem with coolant not circulating

Turn the heater fan off while the engine warms up as it's cooling things down. It will take a while for the thermostat to open in this weather when the car's at idle so be patient, eventually it will open and you'll feel the top hose get warm. Then you can check the level again.

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H

I hade a similar problem with my comer camper door hinges, big slot drive counter sunk screws that just wouldn't budge :-? What I did was to get the MIG out and build weld up on the screw head a bit at a time until there was enough to grab with mole grips and they came out easily, the heat probably ...
