thanks , if the information given by pommreg is correct it must be a replacment (all be it early) and the cert is £40 , so may just leave , thanks again

thanks i was looking for some one who might have the information reguards to numbers on the gearboxes , the car is 53 and the smooth type , so if in 54 they where at 45++ i must think this is a replacement box

so i see , other than the radio (i can get round this as im fitting a ipod doc) i see no reson to do this , so i think i will go back to standard (also saves the fuel sender unit problem) just wonderd why it was done in the first place

I will put my avo on the wire to the fuel sensor unit but I guess hes got a feed now on this wire and that's why its disconnected , can I alter this unit ? every thing else works but unless the dynamo polarity has been reversed im guessing it wont charge , will look into this to see just how far he ...

coverted to negative earth
my 1953 morris has been coverted to negative earth , why would this have been done is there any advantage ? I am thinking of converting it back , the car is running and all appears well but I notice the fuel gauge is disconnected ., has anyone else felt the need to do this .

the chassis plate with numbers is on the drivers side bulk head , but on the passengers side there are two more small plates screwed to bulk head , what are they for and what do the numbers say ? thanks

ever readys answer to the iphone doc , this must go back in the car but any idea what year this might be from ? the car is 53 but this I think is latter , it pulls out so you can carry with you , nice touch

the none standard switch is for the washers , some one had moved the dip switch to the dash (I thought it should be on the floor) the car has trafficators and indicaters fitted , not sure if the indicaters where standard but now fitted they can stay as it might be a good idea , looks like the heater...

there is a spare head also gold ? maybe he just bought a can for a diy shop , will take a better look when the engines out , also in the spares is a 4.55 dif , it still has the standard (square sump rear dif) is it worth changing , may do over winter

I know exactly what you mean , I am of the thinking that a restored car/bike cannot be original , so I try a keep mechanicaly sound but avoid repacment parts if I can , this car is fitted with a replacement SU fuel pump , but the old one came with it and is now fixed so its going straight back on

not sure what TPM means , but here goes markings on speedo are number X76392 5548 its 4inch , made by smiths (I think they all are) I may use on my Ariel but would have to cut lugs off body
