Re: Reducing noise in a Traveller

James, It's all been done before! (Found it at last.) Here's a real effort at noise reduction that may interest you; see via this link https://www.mmoc.org.uk/MessageBoard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59153&p=547872&hilit=soundproofing+my+Minor#p547872 Regardsfrom MikeN. That's me and my car! A ...

Re: Car Cover

i bought the medium sized car cover from Halfords and it's been really great. Car kept completely dry throughout the winter - only problem is that it's impossible to fit back into its carry bag once it's out! I agree. The Halfords medium cover is excellent, had mine for about a year now and no prob...

Re: v888 do you need to pay?

This is slightly annoying. A month or two ago I paid the £5 for the info on one of my cars. But at least I can get info on the other one for free now.

Re: Unusual places people stop to talk about your Minor

I had a slight breakdown in the middle of nowhere near Lochinver in Scotland the other week, and while at the side of the road in a totally deserted area an Australian couple pulled over to say what a lovely colour the car was. No "Do you need any help?" or similar. It caused much amusement.

Re: Fiberglass!!!!

One of the first things I did when I bought my Minor was investigate a dodgy looking bit of paint on the passenger side wing. This turned out to be an approximately 8" slab of fibreglass that was holding together the bottom of the front wing, the inner wheelarch and the passenger footwell... No...

Re: Soudproofing my Minor

Not as dramatic a change as I hoped but definitely quieter, the doors made the biggest difference no rattles now and sound a lot more solid when they close. I haven't done the floor yet as I'm waiting for some pads of a different kind to try them out. I used all the 10 pads and at under £20 I think...

Re: Soudproofing my Minor

I did the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago, but with less material. I used a single 30 sheet pack of Silent Coat 2mm focussed around the front wheel-arches, bulkhead, gearbox tunnel and the floor. I've read in a fair number of places that 20% panel coverage is enough for a significant differe...

Re: Soudproofing my Minor

Thanks for that! And the link to the supplier. I'm going down that path too, soon. I'm surprised and impressed that the "reduced" cover you've done still performed so well. That's encouraging. MikeN. The bit that made the most difference was the boot/petrol tank area, despite the fact I u...

Soudproofing my Minor

After much deliberation, I decided to soundproof my Minor a few weeks ago and thought I'd share it with you all. In total it cost me £91, which included two packs of this stuff http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silent-Coat-Sound-Deadening-Silent-Coat-Volume-Pack-20-Sheets-390-x-250mm-Each-/400748696695?pt=L...

Re: Trying to find 455 MPD

Forgive me if I am wrong, but the V888 form states "B. Information about a vehicle that was previously registered, or is registered in your name – the fee is £5. (Fill in sections 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7)" I've only ever filled one out for one of my currently owned cars, so don't have any experie...

Re: Trying to find 455 MPD

It might be worth you filling out a V888 form if you have a spare £5, then you could get the address of the current (and previous) owners. You should be able to get this information as you were a previous owner. Worth a try if you don't hear anything else anyway :D

Re: mig welder

I have a Clarke Mig151EN Turbo gasless MIG which I bought to repair the sills on my MX5 and which I have since used to do lots on my Minor too. Can recommend it 100%. It cost me about £250 from Machine Mart. Whatever welder you get, make sure you get an auto dimming mask too. They cost about £40ish ...

Re: Should I buy a Morris minor?

Agree with everything above, if you can't do it yourself, find somewhere that you can trust to do it for you. Having said that, I knew nothing about trunions/carbs/leafsprings/point or anything not found on a more recent car, and I have learnt everything so far from this fine forum, the Haynes manua...

Thanks for your replies again . The registration number plot thickens... On eBay at the minute is a 1962 Minor that is OYM732A, again registered in early 1962. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151432044909?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I cant decide whether this is coincide...

Re: engine oil leak and more strange rattlings

If you're using an excessive amount of oil you could be burning it off. My engine desperately needs a rebuild and currently needs filling from the low to full mark every 50 miles. Have you got any smoke behind you at all??

Cheers again for your replies and compliments :) Good to know it has got it's original reg number, I've got absolutely no history for the car so anything like that adds to the mystery and intrigue in it's 52 year life before me. In all probability, I'll probably just rebuild this engine to save the ...

Another OYM XXXA registered Minor in Wales?
