Re: Another Tacho Question
I made a front panel out of 6mm polycarbonate with the 3 holes, and the same (somewhat bigger) thin plywood for the backplate. The gauges themselves hold them together. Here the picture from the front (polycarbonate grinded in shape, but needs to finished in the same color as the dash).[frame] http:...

Re: Another Tacho Question
For the wiring, I found this on a Mini forum, your brand is not in the drawing, but maybe it helps:[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1423224141_22272 [/frame] One more question, I've done what a few people have done and cut a piece of plate to mount the gauges in behind the glove box outer ...

Re: RPM gauge 12V on earth?
Having seen the better resolution instructions and read through them, the 6V and 12V connections are actually -6V and -12V connections with the vehicle system's +ve connection being made to the "+" terminal. The whole case needs to the "earthed", which throws up another question...

Re: RPM gauge 12V on earth?
The terminal for the 'signal' is missing. I assume it is made from isolation material and the fitting the wire to the coil close to the backside will transfer the signal to the electronics in the backplate of the gauge. Right?[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1423092876_22272 [/frame][frame...

Do what? Connect vehicle earth to + terminal?bmcecosse wrote:The gauge will likely go bang if you do that....
Don't want to spoil it, after all that work.
The gauge is isolated completely. Fitted in polycarbonate front and thin plywood back.

RPM gauge 12V on earth?
I bought a nice set of Smith gauges to fit in my Morris. The fitting in the original frame of the glove box is almost finished (need some grinding and painting). [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1423067946_22272 [/frame] I noticed that at the back of the RPM gauge three connectors are avai...

Re: period car accessories
I agree it doesn't look much of an English scene but that IS Philpotts Garage in Ramsgate. It was built in 1936. The company are not listed as being a Morris or BMC dealer however and their main business was motorcycles and scooters it seems. Maybe the Morris was sold secondhand by them? Or maybe s...

Re: period car accessories
Not really an accessory, but mine came with this one. I could not find anything about Philpott's on the internet, but they must have been there in May 1965 (assuming this the original glove compartment lid) :)[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1422470230_22272 [/frame][frame] http://mmoc.org...

Re: Oil leakage
Engine is running and sounds better than before! 8) Ran it idle for 20 minutes, drove short distance for heating it up. Oil pressure 46 psi when idle, over 60 when driving. One leaking point: Oil pressure switch (the switch, not the thread), probably damaged at removing or refitting. Needs to be rep...

Re: Oil leakage
I contacted the supplier to get the original engine ID of the block I bought. Their reply: "The engines loose there engine number as part of the recondition. I am afraid we do not retain these numbers."

Re: Oil leakage
My Morris was imported from UK in 1998, and I bought it that year. Originally a 2 doors saloon, modified (in UK) to a tourer. I have the original registration number and checking on https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk Gives following:[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1422217156_22272 ...

In NL only the vehicle number is registered (as in the floor). I send an email to the supplier if he can provide me with the original engine number (I don't have high expectations).

Re: Oil leakage
No doubt Theo has kept a note of the original engine number for reference. The engine block was a reconditioned one I bought last December. No information of engine number was given to me. On the other hand... What is the value of the engine number if head has been replaced, new crankshaft fi...

Do's and don'ts for starting a recon engine first time?
I'm almost there to start my reconditioned engine for the first time. What are the "do's and don'ts"?
Any advise on running-in, first oil change, etc?
