Re: tyre pressures
You shouldn't need to go much higher than the manufacturer recommended in the first place. Some experimentation is fine and different makes of tyres might run better at slightly different pressures but these are the recommended pressures copied from the original driver's handbook.

Re: Carpet Set Recommendation Required
I reckon Andrew Eggleton's carpet sets are exactly those sold by ESM? I have a set in one of my cars and, for the money, they are fine.

Re: Availability (or lack thereof) of 145/80 R14 tyres
I have recently had a set of Blockley tyres fitted of that size. I am delighted with them. The fact that they have a (correct) larger profile than some other makes is an advantage as far as I am concerned as it brings the rolling radius closer to the original crossply size  I had a choice of f...

Re: Tyre dating
They will be YEARS old! I remember being on a tight budget in the 1970s and buying a similar set of Pneumant crossply tyres for my Minor as they were the cheapest new tyres I could find. They were utterly terrible even when new :o ...... I would suggest therefore that you dispose of them as quickly ...

Re: Better than nothing rust treatment?
Oh well. I expect there are plenty of sound secondhand ones about still if not available new I reckon your Minor is in unusually good condition around the engine bay and inner wings. They were poorly painted from new around the engine bay, so very few original cars look smart in those areas.

Re: Door main glass
Measure them. On a 4door saloon (which I'm guessing you have?) the rear glass is quite a bit bigger than the front. Roughly, the front door glass is 35cm wide (measured from front to back) and the rear is about 44cm.

I don't think I'd rush to buy that particular one to replace one that is rusted. It looks as if it's been used as a boat anchor

Re: 1098 engine & gearbox in a 948 (1961) saloon. Good idea? Bad idea?
Keeping the 948 engine & box would possibly be an option (at a cost) but I don't really have anywhere to keep it! My garage is full of motorbikes! Are 948cc engine & gearboxes 'rare' and or 'valuable'? No, they're worth very little - especially if they require a rebuild. I have Minor of sim...

Re: Official Workshop Manuals
If you can find one at a reasonable price, the original factory parts book is vastly better and more comprehensive than the Charles Ware offering - which can often be found secondhand for next to nothing

Re: 1098 engine & gearbox in a 948 (1961) saloon. Good idea? Bad idea?
I am a fan of the 948cc engine but the later 1098cc engine along with its stronger gearbox does have some advantages. Will the seller allow you to keep the original 948 engine and gearbox if you have the 1098 unit fitted? If so, you'll perhaps have the best of both worlds - a decent driveable car fo...

Re: Current Full Respray Cost
You are a good 10 years out of date - even if you COULD find a retired tradesman working on his driveway (?) for next to nothing. If you use a good quality product like Nexa Autocolour, the paints and materials alone to carry out a full respray would cost the £700.00 you mention. I have recently res...

Re: Crash pad bar
Those little metal plates at either end of the crash bar are indeed spacers. Their purpose is not obvious but there is a reason for them and they were supplied with the optional heater kit. The sides of the Minor 1000 are not quite upright and taper slightly so that the car is a little wider towards...

The red wire is the live 12volt supply so that needs to go to the (probably brass) contact which connects to the bottom of the bulb. The black is the earth so that needs to connect with the side of the bulb - the body of the lamp. Always a good idea to make a not or take a photograph before you dism...

Re: Rear brake part identification help
You have outlined the rear brake banjo ESM part number RBK 119 (the brass part which the bleed nipple screws into) and the banjo connector ESM part number RBK 120 which the brake pipe screws into. Don't forget you'll also need the copper washers to seal the joints.
Good luck with your project!

Re: molding rear arches rather than piping
What do you hope to gain from doing it? I've always felt that having bolt-on panels is an advantage as it means repairs are so much more simple. The filler used to fill the gap along the front wing joint is simply a caulking sealant which doesn't fully harden and can be painted over. You could try s...

Re: Conversion from discs back to drum brakes
Although I am generally discouraging owners to "upgrade" their cars and feel that my own Minor 1000 is perfectly adequate with its drum brakes, I can see no downside to having discs fitted. I'm surprised by your comment that the discs are expensive to maintain as I don't see why that shoul...

Re: VIN numbers - Series II
I agree that a car with that chassis number would have been built in late 1953. The specification you have also dates it to that period, so there seems little doubt. I would contact BMIHT as it seems that they have made an error. Not the first time

Re: dual circuit brakes
The OP says he is looking "for a solution" but doesn't say to what..... I know that all of us drive modern cars which have dual circuit braking systems but have we ever actually needed them? I haven't. I have driven a Morris Minor for more than 50 years fitted with standard drum brakes and...
