Re: Genuine front wings
The pattern panels use a much thinner steel and are poorly crimped together around the headlight area. It is difficult to explain the differences without reference to photos or standing next to them! "Genuine" or Heritage wings are a better product but having recently fitted a pair of bran...

Re: 1965 Four Door - sympathetic resto
Very best of luck. Sorry to hear of your problems but, as you say, restoring a car can be therapeutic if you feel able . At least the better weather should be coming along and it'll be warmer in our garages

Re: Fuel gauge reading half-full when empty
I agree with Bill. You don't have to remove the glovebox liners - and the passenger side one is very easy anyway. Every Minor 1000 glovebox liner was made with a hole in it to access the speedo screw. It does sound as if the voltage stabiliser (not the voltage regulator which is something completely...

Re: 1957 Turquoise Convertible Registration 1590 F
Hi Lindsey, I looked on the DVLA web site and it shows 1590F is currently taxed so it’s still out there somewhere. The last V5 was issued in 2012 with the V5 being issued around the same time it seems likely it changed hands in 2012 so the person who owned it in 2006 probably hasn’t got it any more...

Re: Start of rear repair first timer
You shouldn't have to remove the door just to repair or replace the inner wing - or are you thinking of doing a more major repair? On my Minor saloon I left the doors in place when I carried out the inner wing and floor repairs. That way I was always able to check the door gaps. The doors are heavy ...

Re: Mirrors
My car has had these mirrors since well before I got the car 35 years ago, possibly from new. What I notice is that my mirrors are not mounted on the very top of the wing. They are slightly on the outside curve and I think this makes a difference. As my car is 1969 the different shape is in keeping...

Re: Mirrors
Those original mirrors were made by Desmo. They are very sought after now but do turn up now and again. I bought a pair on ebay a few years ago. The ones you have now look like a Tex mirror. On my Minor I found the clip on mirrors pretty hopeless and have now fitted the Lucas copy mirrors onto the l...

Re: Brake bleed nipples and union screws
What makes you think they don't seat properly? The seating surfaces are out of sight inside the wheel cylinder aren't they. Whenever I have changed such items and bled the brakes I've always got somebody else to push the brake pedal hard while I check for any leaks at joints etc. Just tighten them u...

Re: Clutch not “working
Excellent news :) One thing which might be worth checking: Just have a look at the heater tap/valve at the back of the cylinder head and make sure it is not leaking at all. If it leaks a little, the coolant can enter the clutch housing below and contribute towards the dampness which can lead to the ...

I'm pretty sure it will if you have all the fittings. I fitted a whole Minor 1000 column to my Series 11 some years ago

Re: Clutch not “working
The problem is almost certainly a stuck (sometimes called frozen) clutch. Basically a little corrosion has stuck the clutch plate in position through lack of use. Generally easily cured. Run the engine to get it warm. Once warm, you might find that is sufficient but generally you have to be a little...

I'd say have another read of your chassis number. I think you have one digit missing. 98240 is much too low

Re: 2 door sills information needed
The outer undersill is what the sill rail bolts on to. The original sections seem to have been removed from the car pictured at some time and replaced by some fabricated repair sections.

Thanks you I'm just trying to make sense with what is left on my car Not much by the look of it :o I reckon you need to purchase almost everything. That'll be a BIG job. Re: Lucas Windtone Horn
If you look at the Parts books, there's probably as many variants of Horn configuration as there are Seat arrangements..... I gave up trying to understand the thought pattern behind the various decisions; I've probably not not the 'right' set up for the year, but it works, so not a priority. In the...
