Re: Peterborough Branch - First Meet 13th Oct

Thanks Andy. As you have probably heard, we had an amazing turn out for a first meet, with 11 Morris Minors and 18 folk turning up. :D From now on, the Peterborough branch meets will be the third Thursday of each month at the same venue (The Old Coach House in Market Deeping ) making the next one on...

Peterborough Branch - First Meet 13th Oct

A group of Morris Minor owners in and around Peterborough have formed a Morris Minor group. Most of us are already member of the MMOC, but looking for something a little more local to us. (Currently we are driving over 30 miles each way, each month to join other branch meets!) Well this coming Tuesd...

Re: KAN 863

It's funny what you stumble across down the line. I have just done a google search of the original number plate on our 56 split screen moggy, KAN 863 and it found this old thread! :) The car was re-registered in 2001 to WSL 230. I was just checking to see if the registration number could be re-acqui...

Re: Our 1st Moggy. 1956 Split Screen. WSL 230

Yes it does. I felt ripped off before. You don't expect to be ripped off by a reputable dealer with millions of pounds worth of cars in the showroom! You trust them and in fairness, the car looks great from the top and shinny black underseal below. It looks like it has recently been restored, which ...

Re: Our 1st Moggy. 1956 Split Screen. WSL 230

Update: The credit card bank have just rang me back and have agreed to repay me £1620, which is what Minor Services estimate the cost of the repairs for the car. I also get to keep Betty. This basically means we have paid around 1600 pounds for her, but now have some welding to do on her. I don't no...

Re: Insurance disappointment

You know there is another theory! Some people buy insurance based on the service and perceived payout amount they may obtain in the event of a claim. Others simply want to be legal at the lowest possible price! I had an accident 31 years ago when I was a teenager. I was only 3rd party insured anyway...

Re: Insurance disappointment

Doesn't your Moggy have ABS then? :) Just checked my detailed policy and the car details are correct. No ABS. No Airbags. No tracker fitted. No alarm. No imobaliser. Mechanical steering lock fitted when not in use. Etc. I did put down an anual mileage of only 1000 miles though, which is probably eno...

Re: Insurance disappointment

Well I just went for every day car insurance, found on a price comparison website. I didn't call them up to haggle the price as I felt that the anual premium of £58 fully comp was very reasonable. :D

Re: Pre-Ignition

Any idea how I could adjust the ignition timing now that the car has electronic ignition? Adding a fuel additive could I suppose reduce any carbon deposits in the engine. Might be an idea to pull out a few spark plugs to see how they look. I am wondering if the car has not really been driven by the ...

Pre-Ignition

A few days ago after a half hour run, I turned the engine off with the key and experienced some pre ignition with the engine running on briefly. The car has got electronic ignition so not really sure what could have caused it. Any ideas? Carb setup? Hot spark plugs? Unleaded fuel? Fuel pump? Is this...

Re: Odd wiring problem

Mine is a 63 and has a push pull light switch. It does not go straight in and out though you have to pull it out for sides then twist slightly clockwise and pull some more for mains then reverse for off, push in to turn off mains then twist anti-clockwise and push in again for sides off. Hope that ...

Re: Odd wiring problem

Update. Yep it was the light switch. It doesn't like going straight back in and stops with the side lights on. Needs a bit of a wiggle to push it fully home. Sorted.

Earth cable on battery nice and tight now too. :D

Re: Odd wiring problem

Thanks. Yes it is a 1956 moggy, so perhaps I need to play about with the main switch some more. The earth cable on the battery was fairly tight, but a big pull and a twist can remove it. I made the mistake of going out without any tools! Doh Doh Doh!

Odd wiring problem

This one might be obvious to some. Last night while putting petrol in, some spilt on the rear wing. Just a few drops, so decided to give the wing a quick wipe with a clean cloth before driving off. The cloth brushed past the brake light lens, which promptly disintegrated obviously due to over tighte...

Re: A Bit Depressing

As moggies are fairly economical, then the planet suffers less in terms of co2 if we keep them going. This is especially true if we actually use them as transport, rather than as a second or third vehicle that only comes out at weekends. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/green-living-blo...
