Re: Ford Cosy engine

It depends on how much you want to spend and the anticipated outcome. Best to fit a Zetec for minimum fuss and less frontal weight, plus it's a well supported swap which the old cossy isn't. Not saying it can't be done though, but have a look here for ideas: http://www.morrisminorowners.co.uk/viewfo...

Re: REAR SCREEN MORRIS 1000

I've used waxoil as a lubricant and thick plastic coated vehicle wiring instead of string - worked well without tears. The professionals use parachute cord.

I suggest folk have a wee look here, it's not all roses: http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/licensing-legal-section/bugatti-owners-club-dvla-situation-may-affect-us-all-360250 Basically, a minority may stuff it up for the sensible folk, or have already done so. Fitting a 1275 into a minor, or disc bra...

Yes, weather isn't looking great. This must be the worst year ever for poor weather, I just hope I don't get another wiper motor failure on the way down like the one on Sunday.

Re: Wipers and body mounting MM

It would be sensible to store it carefully. I'm fortunate that I can remove my entire wiper system in about 15 minutes, but owners of standard vehicles would be a couple of hours - more if early MM.

Re: Wipers and body mounting MM

I fitted a series 2 motor and wiper mechanism (outside nut) to my mm as I felt it was a better solution to water leaks and ease of fitment. I wasn't concerned about originality. Having said that, the motors themselves are very weak, and my very little used reconditioned motor has just expired. Whoev...

Re: splitscreen glass replacement

Whilst not the best of fits, I found the Baines? rubber fitted not too badly apart from the aforementioned lip seal. Once the chrome surround is fitted it looks ok, and using the correct sealant ensures it doesn't leak.

Re: Shot/bead blasting

I wouldn't get the bonnet done - doors and wings should be fine, unless they are very heavy handed. I had my entire body shell and panels blasted, but I'd have been better doing it myself with a flap disc as blasting distorted the bonnet and pock marked most of the body resulting in a lot of extra w...

Re: alloy wheels deteriorating?

It will just be the lacquer deteriorating - happens with most alloys. Solution is to remove lacquer from the rim (its not chrome it's alloy polished/diamond cut then lacquered) and then polish the bare alloy back to a good shine - takes a bit of work. Or else, get the wheels refurbished by a reputab...

Re: Most reliable car?

My only breakdowns needing the AA were halfshafts and diffs. I took spares of both if I was travelling far on holiday after the first few breakages.
Electronic ignition is a good mod, but keep the old set up in the boot as a backup. Proper maintenance helps too of course.

Re: Front MM, lowlight and highlight wing bonnet space

Fibreglass replacement lowlight wing fit is a compromise. I got a good fit on the O/S but nearside was a bit short on height looking a bit like yours.
Type of bonnet makes no difference to fit, but I do think that not all short bonnets are exactly the same size as I'd issues with fit.

Re: Part rotten underfloor cross member - short term fix?

I'd strongly suggest getting the crossmember properly repaired as soon as possibly. You will probably get away with doing just the ends which shouldn't be too expensive. Unfortunately, when you start work like this it always develops into something bigger. Your rear spring hanger looks like it's jus...
