Re: flex in floor

I'd leave the Clarke welder well alone I've had two both were a bit rubbish sealey welders are reasonable ive got one at present better feed than Clarke top of the pile hobby migs I'd say are Sip excellent smooth wire feed very controlled amperage. Cebora / snap-on are good but overpriced. I've seen...

Re: Fitting wing mirrors to a Minor Convertible

Personally I prefer door mirrors fitted to the corner plate as above two advantages unlike wing mounted mirrors you can actually see in them. And you don't have to drill your wings in the event you want rid of them just replace the corner plate. I wish the previous owner of mine hadn't bothered fitt...

Re: Blooming Paint!

BMC clearly hasn't realised 2k had moved on since 1980 modern 2k good quality stuff when cut and polished in fact our local funeral cars are done it.I agree cheap 2k ( binder system ) paint looks plastic a high solid 2k doesn't and is perfectly easy to do blend in repairs with. Celly is just as toxi...

Re: flex in floor

Gasless by its very nature creates a poorer quality weld I think we can say that's a given fact it creates a lot more spatter and needs a lot more tidying up. A gas / gasless MIG is just a gassed one in general it's only the much cheaper welders that are " gasless" probably better advice w...

Re: flex in floor

Tricky one that if you're lucky you may have a local college that does some sort if evening course its very dependent on what type of welding you want to do mig is obviously the most popular and probably the easiest I'm currently teaching myself tig which gives a much better finish but is less forgi...

Re: Tracking down a car

It does look as though its gone to the BMC dealers in the sky although it is of course possible that its been stuck in a shed for so long that its not on.the database or that some git has nicked the number to hide the age of there decrepit old Mercedes and its still bounding about the highways on an...

Re: flex in floor

I do my own welding its the only way I can satisfy myself that its been done to my standards I was incredibly lucky and picked up a working spot welded in the local scrapyard for a fiver I say working it needed £3 worth of micro switch replacing. I was shocked when new acquaintance turned up in a ca...

Re: splitscreen REAR window removal.

I've already taken the front out I've done those before and never had any problem getting them back in. The secret I've found is a 1978 servis twin tub..... Fill tub set dial to boil place seal in tub for a good ten mins until its good and hot dry quickly fit glass and install. Odd one but it works ...

Re: flex in floor

My floors been in since 1954 hasn't been welded and doesn't flex some.of that welding is none too brilliant I have a deep mistrust and hatred of underseal its a bodge cover. On the subject of the aforementioned specialist another local car was done by them recently at a stupid cost ( you could have ...

Much previous experience has shown the 1500cc triumph unit is very weak in the crankshaft area if anyone does decide to go down that route check for crankshaft end float.

Re: Blooming Paint!

personally I'd wait till much warmer weather as you're going to have to keep it warm while keeping it incredibly well ventilated. I've not used celly in years the modern stuff isn't a patch on what it was and its five times the work of 2k if your going to use cellulose Lechler is exceptionally good ...

Re: Blooming Paint!

HI I'd warm the metal to be painted slightly as well and keep it that way the garage would be best warmed for a couple of days beforehand too. Primer is hydroscopic meaning in damp conditions it soaks up water that's why panels.left in primer get brown staining ( rust ) coming through therefore if y...
