Re: What is this?

Dear NoviceM, I only know the answer to your question because I just bought the same set from ESM - it's a Clutch Relay Shaft/Linkage kit (ESM code COM100). If you get under your car and have a look at the area between where the foot pedals emerge from the floor pan and the gearbox housing you'll re...

Re: Starter Motor Failure?

First of all, thanks to everyone that responded with some very useful advice and to simmitc for the comments about the problem using the starting handle with an electronic distributor. After replacing the starter motor simmitc's comment appears to be correct, and I bet that this particular 'feature'...

Re: Starter Motor Failure?

Bob, Many thanks for the rapid reply and the very useful diagnosis. Yes I have already bought a new stater motor from ESM so I hope to get that fitted soon. I’m still not sure why the hand crank didn’t work, but maybe a dead starter motor with worn out bushes can cause the crank problem. Thanks also...

Starter Motor Failure?

Afternoon All, Like a lot of things in life I thought this would be an easy one to fix. After 8 years of incredible reliability my 1965 Convertible started to turn over very very slowly for a few moments before firing into life. Prior to this it really was a case starting first time. I assumed that ...

Re: Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Minor Folk Every year it seems that I have to ignore my own rule about venturing out on salted roads in the winter which is why I have to go out in disguise to collect my Christmas tree from a local farm. A convertible is a surprisingly practical car for transporting a Christmas tre...

Another Minor anniversary

I was watching the you tube clip below about the testing of a Morris Minor on a 10,000 mile non-stop trip around the Goodwood race circuit and I realised that this year it will be 70 years since this test was conducted. Would this be a good reason for a parade of Morris Minors around Goodwood to cel...

Re: Rattling windows

I had the same problem on my 1965 convertible, but lived with the rattle for too long and assigned it to the general assembly of noises made by a Minor to keep the driver awake on long journeys. The solution came via a new part from ESM. I wanted to prevent water from getting down inside the door as...

Re: Weather Strip Fitting - Rear Four Door.

I also used needle nose pliers to hold the clips whilst pushing the strip into place with a flat plastic tool used for removing interior panels. It was surprisingly easy to do once I had decided to used these two tools. I was also fortunate to have a 2 door Minor so it was easier to fix in place bec...

Re: Indicator arm horn sounding

Steve, I'm no expert on this, but I have a similar problem with an indicator stalk that doesn't always stay set or doesn't cancel so I bought a new one thinking that after 55 years the old one had worn out. I could have wasted my money as a few days ago two very interesting videos appeared on you tu...

Re: Steering column felt bushes

I had the same wobbly steering column problem and was about to order a new piece of felt, but thanks to the advice above I’ve now ordered a plastic collar from a Mini parts supplier. Thanks to both of the members above for the great tip about the Mini modification.

Re: Amber warning beacon

Thanks to the originator of this thread as it made me realise that I'd be a bit vulnerable if the Minor broke down in the dark. I don't have a 12v power outlet so I purchased this for £13: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bawoo-Emergency-Flashing-Warning-Magnetic/dp/B07V8SJDZJ/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stvp?cv_ct_cx=m...

Re: Bonnet release mechanism

Phil, I didn't know either so I took some pictures this morning. The inner end is connected to a little metal tag which can be moved up and down the bonnet release bar to adjust the tension in the spring (which doesn't need that much tension) - and the other end goes through a little hole in the top...

Re: Glovebox trim surround

I recently did the same and after learning from the wise folk on this forum I immersed the new plastic trim in hot water for a while to make it more flexible. It’s hard to get around the curves of the glovebox so start and end the trim on the vertical straight section of the glovebox. I don’t know i...

Re: Why is the air intake above the exhaust?

My 1965 convertible only gets out in sunny weather and I also wondered why the air intake was sitting on top of the manifold. The Owners Handbook (page 51) suggests winter and summer positions for the intake - winter on the manifold and in summer pointing down. The only thing preventing me moving th...

Re: Morris Mosquito Model sold for the price of a real Minor

The catalogue description is very brief with no info on the dimensions and only says:

Lot Number 6144

Morris Minor: A pre-production model of the prototype Mosquito, forerunner of Morris Minor, circa 1943.

Estimate: £2500.00 - £3000.00

Result: £6300.00

Morris Mosquito Model sold for the price of a real Minor

I was surprised to see that this 1943 model of a Morris Mosquito appeared in a Hanson's Toy Auction in November but clearly it was spotted by someone with an understanding of what it was (i.e. not a toy at all) because it sold for £6,300 which was some way over its estimate of £2,500 - £3,000. You c...

..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps

Here's an interesting article from the online Times which tells how owners of this quintessentially English car are among the most prolific for drink or drug driving offences. I'm shocked that we might have so many bad boys in the club. [url][/https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/drunk-drivers-make-mo...

Re: Is there an easy way to tell if your engine's been converted to unleaded?

I was considering an unleaded head upgrade to my 1965 convertible until an old pal whose business is the restoration of 1960s Astons told me to to run it on super unleaded which is a similar octane rating to the original 4 star. I’ve run like this now for 3 years with no problems and it also eradica...
