I'm also based in north London and do have all my tools/diagnostic bits in the car, I'll be at work till 6 today but would be happy to lend a hand this evening if there's anything I can do to help.

Re: Intermittent misfiring
It's probably also worth mentioning, now I think about it, that there is frequently a small amount of petrol on the top of the float bowl lid and also around the pipes on the fuel pump (I've tightened these as much as seems reasonable). Presumably this also points to the needle valve leaking?

Re: Intermittent misfiring
Just had another thought: is it possible that since I've fitted the correct (non-vented) oil filler cap, the mixture has become richer as a result of less air flowing into the engine? Or would it not affect the mix in the cylinders?
I'm probably showing my ignorance here!

Re: Intermittent misfiring
Thanks for the swift response BMCEcosse! I've got an AccuSpark electronic ignition set-up so I'm hoping the fault isn't located there. I've been toying with the idea of replacing the HT leads just to see what happens. The plugs are new(ish) NGK BP6ES. It previously was running with NGK resistor plug...

Intermittent misfiring
Good morning all, I have recently had a new clutch and a recon gearbox fitted in my 1098 Minor and they seem to both be working beautifully. I have also recently replaced my ancient oil filler cap with a new one. After a little research I opted for the shorter, non-vented type as I believe this to b...

Re: Auxilliary gauge installation help
Many thanks for the help and reassurance chaps! I've now successfully mounted and hooked up both gauges, and am about to pop out to buy the requisite connectors etc. to wire up the back lights. I was hoping someone could now advise me on what readings I should be looking out for on the gauges. What ...

Auxilliary gauge installation help
Evening all, I'm currently in the process of fitting a couple of 52mm Smiths gauges to my dashboard: an electrical water temp. gauge and a mechanical oil pressure gauge, I'm hoping they'll be valuable diagnostic tools/early warning indicators of ill engine health. I was hoping someone could reassure...

Re: Help! Suspected carburettor problem...
First of all, many thanks for the quick replies and all the helpful advice. I ordered a new needle as the original was, possibly, bent and I didn't want to chance it. When the new needle arrived I put it into the piston and realised my mistake - when I had replaced the original after cleaning I hadn...

Re: Help! Suspected carburettor problem.
Oops, my mistake, I have been adjusting the mixture with the nut beneath the jet and the idling speed with a screw above, I believe this is correct? I have tried taking the bell off and turning it 180 degrees but this doesn't seem to have changed anything unfortunately. As far as I can tell, the pis...

Help! Suspected carburettor problem.
Morning all, I am a club member and have, for several months now, been using this forum as an invaluable resource but this is my first post. I have a 1968 2-door with, to the best of my knowledge, a mostly standard set-up (1098cc engine, four speed transmission, HS2 carb) though it does have one or ...
