Popped bubbles!

Hello all, A couple of years ago, I had a bad experience with a car cover: the cover trapped moisture under the cover. When I took the cover off, I saw the car was covered in bubbles! Drying in the sun has either got rid of the bubbles or, in some cases, popped them, leaving unsightly lacerations an...

Re: Popping when engine braking

I wasn't expecting my post to draw quite this range of debate! Although I'm still slightly confused... As liammonty and Myrtles Man mentioned, I only rarely use engine braking (in the Minor) to save the brakes on long/steep hills. Is this occasional practice okay? Is the 'popping' to be expected? or...

Popping when engine braking

Hello all,

The other day, I was in third gear with no throttle going down a steep hill when I heard a popping sound - like someone flicking a sheet of paper. As a novice, could someone explain whether this is 'backfiring'? Is this okay, or does this indicate a problem?

Thanks

Re: Front-left creak

Thanks, everyone. Put some oil around the tie-rod rubbers - seems to have stopped the creaking, though it was temperamental so time will tell. To confirm: when replacing the bushes, should I put the polyurethane one furthest from the wheel, nearer the front of the car? I presume it's a simple job to...

Front-left creak

Hi all, I have discovered a creak going over bumps from the front-left: particularly when steering left; disappears when steering fully right. Having bounced it up and down, I think the creak is coming from the end of the tie rod, where it joins to the tie plate. Is replacing the rubber bushes likel...

Re: Oiling/injecting underside - worth it?

Regards spraying, do people have special kit for this? I'm trying to weigh whether I should do it myself or just pay my local to do it...

Re: Oiling/injecting underside - worth it?

Waste engine oil? Doesn't it just drop off?

Also, how often do people do this?

Oiling/injecting underside - worth it?

Hi all, I am considering getting the box sections injected with anti-rust goo and getting the underside Waxoyled. Currently, I avoid using the car in winter when salt is on the roads, usually waiting for a spring shower to wash away some of the grit; and I periodically (attempt to) rinse the undersi...

Greasing brake cylinders

I understand normal grease is to be avoided. Is copper grease better or a no-no as I suspect?

Couldn't find any red grease in Halfords! Can anyone recommend a substitute?

Thanks

Re: Front brake stuck!

Looks like all the others (except perhaps one on the front right) are relatively new.

I will however replace the old flexible hose whilst I am at it. Are the front/rear hoses the same?

Front brake stuck!

Hello - I've taken my front left wheel off after I discovered it was binding slightly. With both adjusters undone, it's still binding - the LH adjuster was practically undone anyway. I pumped the brake pedal a few times - the RH cylinder protracted, but not the left; in fact, it seems to be stuck al...
