Re: MMOC National Rally 2017

We'll be there, I'm booking the Friday off today, so no excuses :) I'm not clued up as to all the previous meeting venues, as I've only joined the club this year, but I'd like to say this - I think it's great that it moves around! I've been part of the Japanese car "scene" for a number of ...

Re: Oil on the garage floor...

I can confirm that one gets less worried about 'minor' oil leaks after getting a v8 Land Rover. I'm told that they are more incontinent than old ladies but you can always tell where they have been. Excellent :D You're right, I have a couple of leaks under the old RX7, I know what it is, and I know ...

Re: Donald, our first Minor

What product and technique did you use to get this kind of shine? It looks great I used a product called Polarshine, not sure if it's available retail? It's a finishing compound, and removes very little paint with each pass. I used a DA machine polisher at a medium speed, with a standard medium gra...

Hooe Classic, our first car show

I won't fill up the server with a load of pics of all the nice cars at the show, but I will post this one...our Donald parked up with his friends from the ESMMC :)

Oil on the garage floor...

I've noticed that the day after I've parked the car, there is a small puddle of oil under the engine bay. I checked the sump plug and filter - I'd had these off to service it so blamed myself - but these were dry. I opened the bonnet, and noted the oil was directly beneath the crankcase vent pipe......

Re: Jet adjustment

No, I know they don't test the emissions, as it's pre 1974, but he put it on the analyser so I could check the set up, and I adjusted it half a flat while I was there :) It's not idling fast, I just think something is probably wrong if it's idling right, but with the adjustment screw backed right of...

Re: Donald, our first Minor

Well, the old chap passed the MoT test today :) The guy said that structurally it's one of the nicest Minors he's seen in a long time. It's had quite a lot of restoration over the years...I'm glad my Father-in-law is a stickler for good practice, stainless steel fixings used everywhere. Good man! We...

Re: Jet adjustment

He passed! :)

Carb wasn't far out, set it a tad richer to be on the cautious side, but it was ok.

Re: Jet adjustment

the return spring is ok and cable has a little slack, I'm just surprised if it's idling ok with it all backed right off. It's ticking over smoothly enough, I did undo it a bit, but it did seem to be running rich, and a bit lumpy, so I leaned it in again. I've got very little time in the morning, hop...

Jet adjustment

Hi all, A very newbie question I'm afraid... Trying to set up the carb, and it seems to run ok with the jet adjusted 3 or 4 flats from tight home...but the idle screw is backed right off. I'm sure I remember from days gone by, starting at 12 flats from tight...or am I dreaming this??? MoT is booked ...

Re: Donald, our first Minor

Thanks mate!

Finished the first round of polishing last night. Still plenty to do, but this will allow us to get a good coat of wax on the paint, and get it outside :)

Donald, our first Minor

Hi all, Just joined, as we have inherited a 1960 Clipper blue saloon. My wife's mum bought it in 1989, and it stayed in her possession until she passed away a few years ago. The poor old car has stood under a car port, in a garage, in a garden...in fact all over the place for the last 7 years or so,...

Re: Waxing Tips

I would advise against the use of T-Cut; it is a very abrasive compound, and will remove a lot of paint. If you just have some oxidisation, try a paint cleaner, such as Kleers; it will remove a lot less of your valuable paint. If you do need further correction, there are many good mild compounds - M...
