Re: MOGBLOG - I'm off to a new Human Owner!

19th April 2017 Well, it's been a LONG winter! I spent most of it freezing my Imperial nuts off on an uncovered driveway while the big man was sitting feet-up by the fire inside the house. I'm seriously thinking of starting my own protest group... MACTAM (Moggies Against Cruelty To All Moggies!) My ...

You must be feeling very pleased with your new found smoothness - don't tell him but Ted the traveller said he could have got a complete new electronic dizzy for about twice that price  Yeah, but he's tight as a ducks..... LOL PS - What's the benefit of full electronic dizzy rather than just ...

Re: My new ride.

I've got a pal who had a gold coloured VX4/90 saloon and he absolutely LOVED it back in the day.
I remember him raving about the "overdrive" button on the gearknob!!!

If I remember correctly it was quite heavy but had a lot of character.

Re: MOGBLOG - I'm off to a new Human Owner!

16th September 2016 What is it with our humans? Mine is never happy for long... He'd fitted the new condenser previously (to cure my tummy troubles) but wasn't entirely convinced that I was running as I should do. He insisted that there was still a slight "miss" or "hesitation", ...

Re: MOGBLOG - I'm off to a new Human Owner!

9th September 2016 Apparently, when the big fella was poking about my wiring, trying to suss out the wiper switch wiring, he noticed a drip from the T-piece which joins my washer tubes together. :o So, he ordered a new one, and that arrived yesterday along with a Brand New Set of Halogen headlights!...

Re: MOGBLOG - I'm off to a new Human Owner!

6th September 2016 Well, the Big Guy has been busy tinkering with my bits again. (Isn't there a law against this sort of thing?) He had read up on some of the threads here about upgrading to Intermittent Wipers and decided to have a go at building and fitting one of the timer kits from Maplin (Order...

Re: MOGBLOG - I'm off to a new Human Owner!

1st September 2016 Well, the big guy's been busy again... and he's finished painting my wheels a snazzy creamy white colour. http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag207/GSBUF/MogWhiteWheels2_zpsdxnehuhv.jpg It's a little bit rough'n'ready, but I think I like my new look. We've also been out for a long...

Re: New Moggie Owner in Scotland just saying Hi!

The throttle return spring has absolutely nothing to do with the so called 'choke'.... Backfiring can only happen if there is unburned fuel in the exhaust - perhaps aided by the presence of air from the leaking exhaust - but the real problem was mis-firing caused by (apparently - and likely) the fa...

Re: New Moggie Owner in Scotland just saying Hi!

It would seem that a faulty condenser was the cause of the misfire. I checked over a few things, then tried fitting a new rotor arm with no improvement. Then changed the condenser and immediately saw a massive improvement. No Backfire, no misfire. Two short test drives and it's looking good so far. ...

Re: MOGBLOG - I'm off to a new Human Owner!

31st August 2016 What a day! The big guy had a day off work and some service parts arrived in the post, so he set about fault-finding my "tummy troubles". The LT wires checked out OK. Dizzy seemed nice and clean, with nothing loose or showing obvious signs of anything wrong, so he started ...

Re: MOGBLOG - I'm off to a new Human Owner!

29th August 2016 "Oops, I did it again..." Nope, not Britney... my tummy troubles and misfire are back! The big guy is looking bemused, he thought he'd fixed that one. He's checked on the forums and narrowed it down to about 20 possible causes.... I think "aarrggh!" was the word ...

Re: vacuum advance

A failed vacuum unit is quite common. You are testing in basically the right way. With the cap off, look at the spring that comes from the vacuum unit and hooks over a pin on the base plate. When sucking on the tube, you should see the base plate pulled round as the spring moves. It's an obvious mo...

Re: Engine not running properly - strange clicking noise!

I might be wrong (and a bit late...?) but at 15secs in the video you can see the top mounting bolt washer on the alternator rattling about.
Are the alternator mounting nuts tight?
If loose, it might be vibrating under the pull of the belt?

best of luck!

Re: New Moggie Owner in Scotland just saying Hi!

The manifold join problem is common and well documented. I never quite solved mine until I took the time to take the pipe off, sand down the joining surfaces and knock any imperfections in the curve out with a hammer. I also inelegantly plastered the thing with exhaust paste. Re-joining it at the c...

Re: New Moggie Owner in Scotland just saying Hi!

How would the spring affect engine running?? Backfire indicates un-burned fuel, igniting in the exhaust.... Hi bmc, The spring goes to the throttle cable/choke mechanism. I was concerned that I had accidentally moved the spring's mounting plate when I tweaked the exhaust manifold. (...and I had!) I...

I can recommend it too, great stuff but you need to re-apply every few months as it eventually gets washed out. ooops, I nearly missed your post as I was replying to a previous one when it popped in!
