Re: HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

Are you willing to swear blind that GCHQ has not seen the same two emails and if they can well................................. I'm sorry, Amgrave, but I don't see reason in your thinking. It appears you would rather believe that it is ANYTHING other than someone hacking into the MMOC's serv...

Re: HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

Ok, so it looks like someone HAS got access to the MMOC email database. Remember a few weeks ago when I said that I was getting phishing scams sent to me via the unique address I use for this forum? Well I changed it to another unique one (mmocchris@...) and guess what I've just had? Yes, another ph...

Re: HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

Listening lamp posts - it's turning into 1984! I've just had another phishing email to the same address. This time pretending to be from PayPal and asking me to verify my account! This is interesting, and perhaps a chance to find out more; I'll delete the email address they have and make a new one u...

Re: HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

Sorry Amgrave if I misintrepreted your post. It's just that to me it does seem far more likely that someone has got into the MMOC's server to skim off email addresses. I know of someone who, having been disgruntled with their employer, hacked into the company's website and substituted his boss' phot...

Re: HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

If you were an I.T. tech I am surprised you are thinking the problems can only arise from this web site. These days it is possible to have malware in your router to skim email addresses and you would not even know it, even firewalled ones (just an example). If the site was the problem nearly all vi...

Re: HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

As an IT tech I thought I'd offer my two-penneth. I've been using the same email for ages and don't get these. I do, however, have industrial strength security on my laptop. I use commercial antivirus plus anti-spyware software. I don't save passwords locally either, and history and cookies are cle...

Oops, my mistake! I followed a link about MOT exemption and eventually ended up there. Sorry.

Re: New MOT Rules?

As far as I understand this policy was mentioned in the 2016 budget and is in fact going to be law from 1st April 2017. See the update: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vehicle-excise-duty-update-to-40-year-rolling-exemption-for-classic-vehicles/vehicle-excise-duty-update-to-40-year-rollin...

A message for ADMIN.

Sorry for being off-topic but you might not have seen my post in the Off-topic thread as there has been no reply. A hacker has acquired our email addresses from the database for this site. Only three weeks ago I created an email address specifically for use of this site, and now I'm receiving phishi...

Re: HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

Clearly, the security of this forum's server is feeble. Something needs to be done.

HMRC Phishing scam email anyone?

I have just received a 'phishing' scam email purporting to be an offer of a tax refund from HMRC. The thing is, my email address was acquired from this forum - probably the database where our account details are kept. How do I know? Because I only changed my ISP three weeks ago and I deliberately cr...

It does at least include free postage. Mind you, I wouldn't pay £70 for the priviledge of having a pile of rust delivered to my door.

Re: Poor quality brake shoes?

"...we're all talking from experience here" After working on cars for 38 years I think I'm VERY experienced, thankyou. "...but If you're only prepared to pay £10-£15 for brake shoes you will be buying the cheapest available" It's exactly THAT kind of condescending comment which i...

Re: Poor quality brake shoes?

I don't. I was SIMPLY pointing out that it has happened! I'm not pointing the finger at any particular supplier, or slandering anyone. What IS the problem here?!

Re: Poor quality brake shoes?

I've been buying car parts since the late 70s so I know what's what. It's all very well saying 'well if you WILL by cheap parts...' but when it comes down to it most people don't buy them frequently enough to know what is cheap and what is not. I bought those because it was a pound cheaper than it w...

Re: Poor quality brake shoes?

I didn't set out to buy the cheapest I could get, but I assumed they would be ok because they were from a well-known Minor parts supplier who had a stand at the MMOC rally. My point was that they shouldn't really be selling substandard parts - especially safety-critical ones.

Poor quality brake shoes?

In 2011 I bought a set of rear brake shoes in a plain white box from a trader at the MMOC Rally. Should I not be surprised that one of the linings fell off after only 5000 miles?![frame]Image[/frame]

Re: Fuel line question

Well I put another gallon in and...no change. I should have said before that I initally fitted the new fuel line last year and had no problems, so I don't think it's the pump end. Air is obviously getting in the tank end, and I just wondered if anyone had any handy tips of creating an airtight seal,...

There's around a gallon or so, but I could try putting more in. I'll let you know what happens.
