Re: Robust Primer Protection ?

I somehow thought the Bonda wasn't a porous coating.. but if anyone knows for sure ?? Easy enough to splosh a bit of something over the top anyway, as I said, I'm not bothered about looks at this stage ! Ps I've now had a look online at a few forums inc narrowboats etc, and they seem to reckon Bonda...

Re: Driving Technique

The old Land Rover is a bit like that too, you give a pause and 'blip" going into 2nd.. and nipping into 3rd momentarily takes you into 1st with no crunches !
Some folk pull away in 2nd all the time, tho tbh I never found it desirable myself, be ok if you had a diesel perhaps :)

Re: Robust Primer Protection ?

Obviously splodges of red oxide colour on a grey car is going to look a bit, erm, "classic" but it's got to be better than just leaving it rusting away ! Shame they don't do it in grey as well. Couldn't you just apply a quick aerosol coat of grey on to the dried Bonda Primer prior to comp...

Re: Robust Primer Protection ?

Fair enough! I may as well just go for safety and give the rust areas a good clean and Bonda straight on, which is it seems the tried and tested method..I don't want to risk any funny reactions if i can't clean the acid off completely, ( i mainly got the phosphoric to clean out the fuel tank anyway)...

Re: Robust Primer Protection ?

As a PS.. Should I put some phosphoric acid on the cleaned up rusty bits before applying Bonda or just stick with the one process ?

Re: Robust Primer Protection ?

Thanks for the Bonda advice MM ๐Ÿ‘ I've ordered a small tin and will only require a day of dry-ish weather to give it a go, although not an ideal season of the year to be painting anything outdoors Obviously splodges of red oxide colour on a grey car is going to look a bit, erm, "classic" bu...

Re: Robust Primer Protection ?

Bonda primer does ring a bell from the past, I'd certainly be brushing on whatever I used rather than aerosol, as you can get a brush right into where you want it, I'll have a look on evilbay for a tin anyway ๐Ÿ‘

Re: Robust Primer Protection ?

Interesting, so I've got a bottle of phosphoric acid, ( if that's appropriate?) if i apply a solution of that to the rust areas you say it'll hold further rusting at bay with no further coating? I was envisaging sanding the rusty bits back to clean metal and painting over with a good paint/primer of...

Robust Primer Protection ?

Probably a schoolboy question, but I'm looking for advice on a primer that will protect areas on wings and body that have broken out into rust spots /patches, a primer that can be left on whilst car is in use until I get around to a more permanent finish. Grey would be preferable, the car is grey, b...

Re: Metal drill bits.

I abuse drills horribly, I've found some bronze coloured things that survive well, can't recall make but I believe they're Titanium based, seem to rip through most metals I've thrown them at.

Re: Daily drivers!

I alternate with a 4 door moggy and an old Land Rover, tbh you can't get a lot of stuff, tools and equipment wise in the mog , that I'd do in Land Rover. I don't have any modern cars at all, newest is 1968, provided you have the right mindset for old motors, and are ok with fettling stuff yourself, ...

Re: Strange problem. Lovely starter but just coughs and won't start easily if left for a couple of days

This time of year everything is wet or damp, try spraying a load of WD 40 over the HT leads, cap , etc etc.
I had an old Vauxhall that simply wouldn't play if left for a couple of days and you didn't do the WD 40 thing... if you did it was fine!

Glad the moggy is doing well and has acquired a name, ours always end up with several mad nicknames and abbreviations too.

I always wonder if they have names for each other...?

Great to see you've given a home to another pooch in need olderisbetter!
There were a couple over our way that I was very tempted by but as we already have 3, and 2 moggies( cats that is) I had to exercise restraint,
now when I retire somewhere with a bit of space....

Rubber mats in traveller

As the trav is a working motor , me with mud and grime usually present, I'm inclined to rip the old carpets out, does anyone know of a set of rubber matting available, in the same vein as the light commercial motors had, just front section would be fine, otherwise a case of make em myself
