Re: Declaration of exemption from MOT. Form V112.

The V5C for my 1969 Traveller shows the taxation class as Historic Vehicle. It was ‘Taxed’ until 30 June 2018. It’s MOT expires on 25 May 2018. To take advantage of the new MOT exemption coming into force from 20 May 2018 I submitted an online SORN on 22 May 2018 with the intention of re taxing it ...

Re: Electronic Morris Minor

The expensive part is the battery. One could probably do an electric conversion sans-battery (not that it would be much use) for less than £1000. Zoes, Leafs, Teslas and so on are being crashed and crashed into - perhaps scrapyards will be a good supply for budget battery packs. I think most of the...

Re: Mot

I'll be testing the new mot system shortly, I'm taking a vehicle off sorn by taking the V5, plus insurance certificate and presumably some filled in form, to a post office and asking them to tax it. I'll see if they ask for an mot certificate. Apparently the online system has now been updated to al...

Me going round in circles . It would therefore seem ( as we have previously mentioned ) that I need to declare it MOT exempt when I next tax it and keep it MOTd till then. I suppose I could try declaring it MOT exempt next month . Oh well , a large tot beckons , thanks for all your input . Reading ...

Re: Aldi type places.

And true! They are a pompous self serving lot. Lots of 'Do you know who I am Officer?' 'I pay your wages' etc. The get quite cross when the reply to 1 is 'No do you know who i am .... No? .... that makes us even then!' and to 2 ' Actually I think I pay yours as well !' When one of my old managers t...

This must be true as many people drive exactly as if there are no other cars around.

Re: Modern cars

If you look at the advertising for new cars it is all about the extras, very little if anything, is mentioned about the ability of the vehicle just that it has satnav built in, bluetooth, six/eight speaker sound system, wifi, built in tv, available in masses of nice colours and you will look cool in...

Re: Modern cars

I always go with bangernomics, the price and depreciation of new cars is madness. For the price of the PHEV £35k you could buy a used low mileage car of your choice and have £15000 left for petrol. Or build a cracking Morris hotrod, which would keep its value. A few years ago one of my work colleag...

Re: Modern cars

My wife never ceases to amaze me. She has suddenly announced that she is thinking of swapping her jeep for a thing called a PHEV... Some kind of hybrid 4x4. I'll research it,but any comments gratefully received... Probably the Mitsubishi PHEV, it is the most popular as it attracts considerable purc...

Re: New MOT exemption

This is from the Government guidance:- How to declare a vehicle for the 40 year MOT exemption Vehicle keepers are required to ensure that their vehicles are taxed when used on a public road. From 20 May 2018, at the point of taxing a vehicle, the vehicle keeper can declare their vehicle exempt from ...

Re: New MOT exemption

Well said Phil, but there will always be those who seek to save a few quid as a short term measure. We have become used to seeing 'MOT Exempt' as some sort of selling point on Minor Adverts. Already happening, describing a Minor as being MOT exempt from may next year, more than one doing that on Eb...

Re: New MOT exemption

Further information lifted from another car site:- BIG update to the draft "originality" test for the 40yr MOT exemption. * Chassis/bodyshell changes with "original pattern" are OK. * Steering/suspension changes to "type and/or method" are not OK. * Engine changes withi...

Re: New MOT exemption

Whilst accepting that 'substantial change' is still to be defined, the whole process of exemption or further exemption (I am not sure I would call it entirely a benefit) is of concern. We all have our own posts on on this and it appears the majority will continue to test, largely as before but ther...

PAYG motoring

The problem that I have with this is that it assumes that all of your motoring is either to get to work or to drop off/pick up the kids from school. If you put a charge onto every mile at the levels proposed as well as the proposed method of charging for insurance motoring sudenly becomes (even more...
