Re: 1949 MM Firewall holes

I have a tourer that is a rolling shell in primer. If I get a chance, I'll photo the firewall in the daylight and post up some photos. Will try to do the same with my 49 saloon although can't vouch that it will be 100% original. Philip: Thanks for this, as I need the same info for "Clementine&...

Glad you posted this, as I ordered the same fuel hose from ESM but haven't yet tried to fit it. Will follow wisdom from others with interest!

Re: 1948 MM arrived

I'm going to have to ferret around behind the firewall (bulkhead) to check the correct shade. I think it was resprayed 20 years ago; it always was maroon. It's actually a very dark marron, bergundy wine colour. I had a maroon B Morris in the 1970s and it was much redder. That was my thought too. Th...

Re: 1948 MM arrived

Richard What a lovely and superb example. Truly, congratulations on acquiring the car. The degree of originality is remarkable. I must admit, along with some other early cars, photos like these will be most helpful with restoration of my April 1949 'USA' Tourer which was also originally maroon. Can ...

My April 1949 car has quite different dampers. Were Girling front dampers used interchangeably with the standard item? Were they replacement parts? I've never seen dampers like those on a Minor as far as I recall ...

Re: Early MM parts

I can't bring myself to crush this old girl so whilst the Boss is still happy for it to be in the workshop I'm going to play with some rust. There will be minimal if any repair panels, partly because I would like the car to remain more Morris than Hadrian but also because of the obscene mark up pla...

Re: Recent acquisition

Thanks for posting this, Richard. Indeed, looks quite rust-free indeed from what's visible. If you talk to the owner again, you can tell him that with serial # 27839, it's very likely an October 1949 car. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/north-plympton/cars-vans-utes/1949-morris-minor-low-light/12590...

Re: Recent acquisition

I rather suspect the mount for the lever-arm shocks changed around the same time the firewall was redesigned to add a slight recess in the crossmember to accommodate the longer Series II engine.

That would have been in the months leading up to the first Series II four-door saloon in August 1952.

Re: PARTS FOR 48 LOWLIGHT TOURER WANTED

Actually turns out to be a saloon and chassis no is 5528 so 28th LHD. There is something about it on here in 2011 https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=42114 Wow! I think I vaguely recall knowing that existed, delighted it's still around. And of course definitely a 1949 car! Do we kn...

Re: Piston rings - try GBH Spares?

MM owner David McCullough recommended GBH Spares to me, and they provided what I needed: <info@gbhspares.co.uk> Brian who works there was very helpful, and wrote me the following: "We have had ring sets done for this engine……though we need to check that you don’t have an odd piston, which is ra...

Re: Gear shift lever knob

OK, according to OHP900 aka Richard O'Brien (who can't recall his login at the moment), the knobs Mike Parry had made weren't correct. So basically I had the story backward—for which abject apologies. Richard sent me these four photos. Three show the original knob off his Feb 1949 car, with ridged e...

I would bet a certain amount of money it's blue. I've never seen a red-painted boot emblem on any Minor.
