Re: mg midget engine 1500 swap ??

don't worry about the head being unleaded or not, you can use unleaded regardless, just set the exhaust valve gaps to 15 thou and the inlets to 12thou (I think!). With the exhaust you would be best running the LCB into a big bore pipe and straight through silencer to get the most out of the engine, ...

Re: mg midget engine 1500 swap ??

hi neil, indeed, many of the alloy inlets have a 1.75" bore (HIF44) but this is absolutely fine for a 1.5" carb (HIF38). The only time it would cause an issue is if using 1.75"carb on 1.5" manifold. Both HIF38 an HIF44 have the same mountings so inlet will be fine either way. I'm...

Re: mg midget engine 1500 swap ??

Hi Neil, I don't know which car the HIF38 originates from, but it will certainly appear frequently in the Mini listings on ebay. Also, not sure what the standard needle is, but the AAA needle is available new from SU Carbs for about £6 (SU: 01722 412 500). The HIF38 fits straight onto the inlet, hav...

Hi Neil, You asked about tweaking the 1098, I was going to go down this route until I found a 1300 ital engine. From the research I did and all the great help on here I decided the way to go was as follows: 12G940 cylinder head (available regularly on ebay for about £40 - search Metro and Mini) HIF3...

Re: removing old wires

Right on, definitely coming out in that case. Can the rest of the wires (i.e. other than A and A1) be removed?

Re: removing old wires

That sounds nice Tom :D 8) Was the voltage regulator only to even out the votage from the dynamo? I too am fitting an alternator and have removed the whole loom to tidy it up and would be very keen to remove the voltage reg if I can, so it's just simply a case of joining A and A1? Can the rest of th...

Re: Best Supplier for Poly Bushes

Yeah I would recommend JLH as they supply Superflex bushes which appear to be of exceptional quality - they also come with some handy lube to stop them squeaking :D I have heard mixed reports about poly bushes from the mainstream moggy suppliers

Re: Roll over jig

That's awesome! :D
I have designed mine to work in a similar way but am waiting to get the box section to make it, I might just make it in timber... a sturdier version of that would be ideal I would imagine

Re: fuel pipe

Yes expensive indeed at £8.60 p/mtr - cotton overbraided rubber hose is £5.87 p/mtr (from VWP) - just interested as it seems like a nice flexible solution which wouldn't suffer from cracking etc due to flexing

Re: Rust

Hi Glenn, I would advise, for surface rust, cleaning back as best you can with a wire brush, then using a rust killer, and then wire brushing it again to take it back to bare metal... I did wire brush and then rust kill then paint on my bootlid and the rust has just come back under the paint after 2...

Is there any sense in / does anyone use steel braided rubber hose all the way from the tank to the fuel pump?

Re: Forward planning for supercharging 1275

aha thanks for that Mogwai. With all this reading I'm doing about forced induction I'm starting to think I might try and go turbo for the time being as it's going to be a while before I can afford to supercharge... I just don't want to destroy the engine! There's so much balancing/tuftriding/bluepri...

Re: Forward planning for supercharging 1275

Yes I read that a high pressure fuel pump would be needed, and possibly a fuel pressure regulator also. What makes the Turbo version of the carb different to the HIF44? Presumably a standard one could be modified with different float valves/jets etc? I'm yet to fully read what Vizard has to say abou...

Re: Forward planning for supercharging 1275

forgive me, but what exactly is detonation - premature detonation of the air fuel mixture from an overly high compression ratio? I have an HIF44 carb which I would use for it, the Jonspeed and Vmax kits both use these so I'm going on that as a recommendation. That's good to know another person who h...
