Do I need to notify insurance when car is away for repair?

Does anyone know if you need to notify your insurance company when your car goes off for repair?

Mine is off for a bit of cosmetic surgery, which might take a couple of weeks, so I'm guessing that might count as a different place of storage?

Yes, there are high-security lock cylinders that are a direct swap for the originals

High-security door locks?

Could anyone comment on whether it’s worth fitting high-security door lock inserts to Minor? While replacing worn original locks operated by a conventional key seems a good idea, it struck me that it wouldn’t take much for a thief to prise open the quarter lights and open the door using the interior...

Saluting good customer service

Good customer service is such a rare thing these days, I reckon examples of it need to be acknowledged and shared. So thank you to East Sussex Minors for their no-nonsense replacement of a body repair panel I’d ordered that had arrived with a small dent. It wasn’t a big dent but I didn’t want the bo...

Re: Are hazard lights a hazard to Moggies?

Thanks everyone, that's great - good to know it's got its own flasher unit.

And yes, it's not the prettiest of things, is it! But I think safety is more important, and hopefully I'll be able to hide most of it.

Are hazard lights a hazard to Moggies?

Has anyone fitted a hazard light kit, like this one from ESM? https://www.morrisminorspares.com/search/hazard#page1:infscr829961 Do you know if it has its own flasher unit for the hazards, or does it utilise the Minor one? I’ve heard that some hazard lights can overload the Minor’s flasher unit and ...

Rust-proofing: Dinitrol or Dynax?

Could anyone recommend the best cavity rust-proofer for use in cold conditions? I've used Waxoyl in the past, applied hot on a hot day, but I need something that will penetrate repairs to door bottoms, etc, and will seep and creep into tiny gaps between welds when the metal is cold, so have been loo...

Research undermines PM's plan to achieve net zero by 2030 by banning internal combusion engines

Just been sent this link to a Daily Mail story that reveals the manufacture of electric cars produces 63 percent more carbon dioxide than making a conventional one. It’s not mentioned whether the figure includes the impact of mining the various rare metals that go into the batteries. And it definite...

Put a tiger in your tank - not ethanol!

I've been using Esso super-unleaded in my Mog for years after hearing from a number of sources that it was ethanol-free, but have just come across confirmation from the horse's mouth. https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels-faqs?fbclid=IwAR2ZbcAuW1Lb2UiGGEWg41bK_UFSJ80wzQeoGlui60yhkLFf7bqwT3WeXSA Happy c...

Correct hydraulic oil for dampers - and jacks?

Can anyone advise the correct viscosity of hydraulic oil for lever-arm dampers - and jacks? I've previously used Comma jack oil for both, but my local supplier insisted that Kerax Hyperdrive KX+ was the same. Applications listed on the back are forklift trucks, exavators, etc, but it says nothing ab...

Re: Helicoil help - front damper mounting

Thanks Phil - you were dead right!

I bought a new bolt and screwed it in with great trepidation, and was delighted to find it bit the internal theads and tightened properly.

Good thinking by BMC to make the bolts softer than the captive nuts!

Re: Helicoil help - front damper mounting

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I like the idea of the bolt being sacrificial, and hope I can get away with just fitting a new one - I don't like the idea of cutting slots (I'm not sure it would be possible on my car because I think the bracket for the telescopic shock on the inner wing is welded a...

Helicoil help - front damper mounting

Has anyone fitted a helicoil for a front damper mount, and who could give me some guidance? Just noticed while checking the front suspension that I have a stripped thread on one of the damper bolts. The thread on the bolt looks worn, with the edges of the thread worn down (see bottom pic). While a n...

Hi Phil

Thanks for the clarification.

Could a locating boss/spigot sold for fitting a Minor flywheel to a Marina crank be used to fit a Minor flywheel to a Sprite crank?

Re: 1098 Minor clutch with 1275 Spridget flywheel?

Thanks Phil Assuming that's the front of the modified flywheel, it looks like the protruding part of the Sprite flywheel where the friction plate sits has been machined flush - is that correct? And what is index drilling? Would that affect the operation of the the standard Minor clutch, or could the...

Impressive rear axle set-up, Phil!

I take it there is a radius arm/anti-tramp bar out of shot? And I think I can see a bracket for a panhard rod?

Re: Wheely idle speculation!

That's certainly one purposeful interior, Phil!

But I'm curious. What's the big red light in the middle of the dash? A Mach 2 velocity indicator? Or maybe a wallet-aware over-rev warning light, perhaps?!
