Bull Motif charge about £870 for a 1300 A series, and about £800 for a 1098 engine.
Much cheaper than your quote for a rebuild:D

Re: welding costs
Thanks Lads, He lives half a week in Inverness and half a week in Wick. Then spends most weekends in Durness, where he found this car on his travelings. I agree with your comments and shall advise him accordingly. I'm going up in May for a week to stay, so if it's still there I shall have a good pok...

Re: welding costs
The car is in Bettyhill, Sutherland. The photo's he's sent to me show a car in pretty good condition, unfortunately they only show exterior views.
He's looking to buy and drive - his mechanical skills are only basic at the moment.
cheers,
Iddy

Re: welding costs
Mmmm......
That's what I'm concerned about.
Also, with no mot he can't take it to a garage for some quotes before he buys. Plus he doesn't know anyone who could give him an idea of the work needed to be done.
Thanks for the info lads,
Iddy

welding costs
My son is thinking about buying a Traveller which is an mot failure. Unfortunately he's living in Scotland, so I'm not much help down here in Wales. I'd like an idea of the work and price involved for the following information from the seller: Work needed on NSR and OSF brakes due to binding / N/S h...

Re: Data Recovery
I've succesfuly used a free program called Recuva to recover deleted data. I shouldn't think it will work in this instance, but a good back up program to have on your pc. It's important to install this before you actually need to use it, otherwise installing a recovery program could overwrite the fi...

Question 2 - windscreen washer
The nasty mot man poked the manual windscreen washer through the dash :o In fairness it was getting a bit stiff and finicky. Anyway, I've bought an electric one as a replacement. Where's the best place to put it? I thought of putting it next to the top up bottle, although I'd rather not drill into t...

Question 1 - brakes
I have a seized rear brake cylinder (mot failure), so am going to change both rears while I'm at it.
Do I need to bleed all four brakes or can I just do the rears? I'd rather not disturb the front - if it ain't broke etc.
cheers

Here's some info about studs and bolts which might come in handy. It refers to the modern ones used where I work, but might also be applicable to older ones. Part numbers: The part numbers of a bolt or stud don't just come off the top of a manufactures head, they include all the information needed. ...

Well, she's up and running and all is OK. :D Have rechecked nuts and reset valve gaps. I happened to be talking to a retired mechanic yesteday, he worked in a Morris garage years ago and told me they used to set the valves at 12 thou for intakes and 15 thou for exhausts. He said the engines ran quie...

Head studs
My blooming head gasket needs changing. Can I take the studs out with a molegrips so I can clean the block face, and when replacing is there a problem with torque or do I just tighten them until they don't move? Can I just clean the head and block faces with fine emery paper? I notice the new gasket...
