Re: How many of you can weld, and how did you learn?

Most welding is actually measuring, cutting, preparing, measuring again and grinding.

Re: How many of you can weld, and how did you learn?

I watched a _lot_ of youtube videos on mig welding bodywork. I also went on a welding course covering MMA, mig, Tig and gas. But the videos and practice on scrap would be enough. Main problem I have is being disciplined to go very slowly and letting the metal cool down.

Re: 2speed switch

I know it is possible but I can't remember how since I did it many years ago and no longer have my Minor See the attached image which I think is for a Mini or Marina 2 speed wiper which I used some years ago. By trial and error work out which connectors connect at positions 0, 1 and 2 for a spare li...

Re: Any Volvo 240 owners here?

My dad had a 244 when they were new or nearly new and stuck with Volvos for the rest of his life. Most were the 260/760 with 6 cylinder engine and from memory the injection system started to play up after 2 years on most. I've heard than the 4 cylinders were much more reliable than 6 cylinders. 4 cy...

Re: Fiat twin cam advice please

I found a Davis Craig electric water pump (I believe made on Australia) plus electric fans extremely effective on keeping my 2.0 Minor cool in all (English) weathers. Big question long term is parts. If everything has to be imported round the world it could be pricy. To that end are there many Ladas...

Did you have any issues keeping historic vehicle status.

Also just noticed I made a comment to this thread.... 16 years ago!

Re: Electric Morris Minor

Just to be out there but what if you just send the V5 to DVLA with a change to cc=0, fuel =electric engine number = whatever. Does the V5 come back with historic status lost? If so, does that require a change of numberplate to Q? Do you have to pay road tax? If you make a cradle that uses the origin...

Curious to learn more about fused earth.

Anyhow,

if you're planning to have a remote oil filter, it's a small step to adding an oil cooler into the mix a the same time.

Re: Is DOT 5 as wonderful as some would have...

As with others, I used to change one or two cylinders on each of three cars every year. Changed to DOT5 silicone 20 years ago and no more seized components. Also, if you do spill any, it does not strip paint. No contest. Yup, If you're not opening the master cylinder to change the fluid moisture is...

Re: Electronic ignition - spares

Positive earth. Looks most like the PowerSpark. I've always been a fan of the Vellemann kits (link below, no connection to me) because you could leave the standard condensor in place disconnected and if the Vellemann blew you could go back to standard with reasonable certainty the points would still...

Re: Electronic ignition - spares

This is the inside - does it look familiar to anyone? There is nothing outside the distributer.

Engine seems fine, apparently rebuilt unit. Nicer than a 1098 Minor somehow but doesn't like to rev - has all its power down low.

Electronic ignition - spares

I have recently bought an early 948cc MG midget. A previous owner has fitted a contactless distributor from who know what, perhaps late Mini? Anyhow, while it is working just fine, what spares do people with such dizzys carry in case of breakdown given no there are no points? Do distributor caps fai...

Re: Can torsion bar trimming affect camber and cause tyre wear?

Many years ago I remember using Marina torsion bars but with the original Minor rear adjuster (because the Marina adjuster would apparently bash through the floorpan) and had to cut one or other of the ends of the bar so it would fit.

Re: Introducing myself

Completely left field but a Nissan Leaf is a good donor car to convert something else to electric. Someone makes a controller so that your Leaf battery, motor and pedal can all hook up in some other vehicle. It's a the back of my mind for a project one day but only so much time. Also, while Nissan w...

Re: Spax upgrade?

It looks like you could remake the upper bracket to have a higher mounting point for the damper so that it is vertical and still has enough ravel.
