Re: Rolling tax exemption

Vehicle excise duty should have been added to the fuel years ago. It is the only fair way of dealing with it. The more you use the roads the more tax you pay and nobody can avoid paying. That's the way it is done here in France and petrol prices are similar to the UK's. People still think it's to d...

Re: Spotted today.

Spotted over the weekend in Nottingham. Bit of a curio so I thought I'd post it here.... A Grumman Kubvan: as far as I can tell it's an early version of the Grumman LLV that the US Postal Service used for decades to deliver mail. This one is in natural polished Aluminium but it has the Blue/Red Stri...

Swear word censorship......... John  Well a little tip for you; if you use the PREVIEW Button before SUBMIT you'd see what has been changed..... The list of words that are changed by the filter is quite small, so 'bullshit' as one word will get through, but if you hyphenate it..... you'll just...

Re: Unblocking engine coolant drain tap passage

As you will see from the photos (hopefully) the gubbins of the 'old' radiator is very much narrower than my 'new' one. The new one is one that was given to me and I've had re-cored at a local rad specialist and I think it was narrow just like my 'old' one before I took it in for the re-core. (I've ...

I love it when armchair experts comment on stories without reading up on it first. That's why the Daily Mail has so many readers, they're all incapable of making their own minds up. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47715415 The system can be overridden temporarily. If a car is overtaking a...

Re: Body shapes after 1964

I was wondering if there is any difference in the 2 door car body shell after 1964, My 1955 Series II has had replacement doors installed about 20 years ago and since 3 of the glasses (both Drop Glass and one 1/4 light) were etched with a J reg, I suspect the doors were from the same car. They are ...

Is it really the case that the reversing light has to be manually activated while reversing and then deactivated when finished reversing? Well yes, it really is... If you want such things to be done for you, you usually have to get a car that's post 1970.  I'm pretty sure my 1969 Ford Es...

Phishing/Virus emails

Hi all Just to highlight that Charles Ware have had their emails/address book hacked and Scumbag criminals are sending out emails that are faked as coming from Charles Ware, in an attempt to get recipients to open attachments which will no doubt install all sorts of nasty things on your computers. I...

Re: No spark.

Hi I've been absent from the forums for a few months, so now catching up. I've had a problem with my Series II Basil not starting. Everything seemed to be right, spinning over nicely and spark at all plugs when they were removed individually and laid on a good earth connection, so I was suspecting f...

Re: Best type of garage door

I was going for the traditional up-and-over type for the double garage I'm building, but I've been told a door of this size can be unwieldy as it's likely to twist in use and may come off its runners. I would say that depends entirely on what you are prepared to pay to get the quality required. Che...

Someone, without debt, is assumed to be a bad risk, who can't get finance, not as someone who doesn't need finance. As an example, despite paying off my credit card, in full each month (It's really just used as a buffer between my bank account and any would be fraudster and to save carrying too muc...

I think it 's up to the European Data Protection Regulation     It's purely down to the way this message board software has been configured; perhaps another aspect of the archaic nature of the set-up. Here's the screen shot of the My Profile options for this board: PHP 1.JPG Y...

Re: Dynamo and starter cases

Second dumb question...if the rotational direction was revesed, would a dynamo still charge? Blimey, that's asking me to go back to electrical theory I learnt 44 years ago and never used as it was so basic. It'll still generate the voltage, but I can't remember if the polarity would be reversed. So...

Re: Mysterious Scratches

I'm kind of with John, although I think the damage might be a little wider spread across the wing if it were the hose. It's definitely a 'scuff' mark where something has rubbed the paintwork.
My Kuga has plenty of such marks on the rear bumper from moving items in/out of the tailgate.
