Re: Lucas catalogue

Now you've explained it was an ebay item, rather than direct from their website, Alles Klar as the phrase goes.

'Modern car' steering vibration....

Just posting this here for a bit of general interest. My 14 yr old Ford Kuga suddenly developed a bit of vibrations on the steering at around 45-55mph. Thinking I'd lost a balance weight, after a few short journeys which confirmed the vibration, I took it into a local Tyre place to get the front whe...

Re: Lucas Windtone Horn

If you look at the Parts books, there's probably as many variants of Horn configuration as there are Seat arrangements..... I gave up trying to understand the thought pattern behind the various decisions; I've probably not not the 'right' set up for the year, but it works, so not a priority. In the ...

Mmoc is not far from me I’m in Matlock and mmoc is in derby which is very handy That's the Club Head Office, principally doing 'office stuff'', although it's an interesting place to visit on an Open Day. The nearest branch to you is almost certainly Mansfield, the MADMOG Branch, they meet on the so...

Re: Lockheed servo

You have very little chance of finding a NOS Lockheed Servo. In fact, the history of the Lockheed Brand isn't as simple as people think, or 'remember'... Automotive Products (AP) started in 1920. Around 1928-30, they began licence manufacture of brake parts from the American Lockheed Corporation. In...

Re: Morris Minor Pickup 1965 not starting

thanks for the replies. That video you provided Stephen was very useful. As I don't get any lights on to indicate ignition on etc I did put a battery charger on it, it was reading as if not flat. I think I will put the charger back on again and leave it for a few hours. I will totally disconnect th...

I believe the very last Austin vans were negative earth or so a member of my MMOC branch insists regarding his van.......I think the very last Travellers may have been negative earth dynamo but I would need to find a reference for that. Re: Morris Minor Pickup 1965 not starting

Almost all Morris Minors (except the very last ones).... Really Stephen? What gave you that idea? To the best of my knowledge, no Minor ever left the factory Neg Earth. The only area of doubt I have is overseas markets, particularly Antipodean, where they have a lot of autonomy in their assembly pl...

Re: Hazard lights

AI can't explain why your original had 3 green wires? Only the original instructions would have provided that info. But you should only need two, 1 for each side. Perhaps the 3rd is the warning light if they are switch wires. I wouldn't expect a Warning lamp line as the Switch Top usually contains ...

I wonder what they would do if a Hillman Imp driver wanted to fill up?

Would they recognise the engine is in the back and the fuel tank, with filler nozzle, is under the bonnet.... :-?

Re: Hazard lights

As we've established, Minors never had them originally, they were an early/mid 1970s invention. The original aftermarket kits were different from the ones you get now. These days they all seem to come with a couple of wires intended to isolate the main indicators Flasher, so you don't get flasher un...

Re: Lubricants

Stephen has given you a comprehensive list. I would do some research before making rash statements: Obviously I don't want to use inferior oils, grease etc on her. I have an old Castrol lubrication chart showing me all the various grease, oil points etc,but as you know most of, it not all lubricants w...

Re: Voltmeter -false low readings

Sooooo, the plot thickens. I used the piggy back so that the white wire from the ignition output was in place and the Voltmeter connected up. Only 11V !! So I disconnected the white wire to see what happens and the voltmeter read 12,5 V !!! Thus for my logic there is some problem with the white wir...

Hallo Berni, thankyou for your suggestion - I will try to give the ignition switch a clean and see what happens. Your nice diagramme interpretation is perfect. Incidentally a Brian Hawley, who may well be a MMOC member, has downloaded this excellent colour wiring diagramme. https://www.dropbox.com/...

Re: Voltmeter -false low readings

Hi Nickol So, referencing the diagram, to make sure I've understood your quite clear description. A = 10v B = 13v (good battery charge) C = 13v D = 10v Nickol.JPG Yes, I'd say you have a poor connection at one or more of the points I've coloured yellow. Possibly at all of them just half a volt or so...

Re: tyre pressures

You shouldn't need to go much higher than the manufacturer recommended in the first place. Some experimentation is fine and different makes of tyres might run better at slightly different pressures but these are the recommended pressures copied from the original driver's handbook. Interesting that ...

Re: 1098 Thermostat Housing??

The thermostat housing with temp take off was not a standard item on a 1098cc as all the 1098cc heads had a temp take off facility as standard. That's what I thought. my car's already sorted with a sensor in the 1098 Head, I was just surprised that the Parts Catalogue showed it like that; hence ask...
